I thought this was a nice fluff piece about Floyd coming home to the Cubs.

As the article points out, coming home hasn't always been a good idea.

In the past decade, not many Cubs players who grew up in the Chicago area distinguished themselves with the team.

Jeff Reed, Ron Mahay, Jody Gerut, Trenidad Hubbard and Ron Coomer had brief stints with the North Siders as role players, and made such little impact that many casual Cubs fans might not even remember them.

Floyd on the other hand seems excited about it.

"I have had high expectations for myself no matter where I play," Floyd said. "Coming home has always been a dream. I can't look at it as 'I'm going to mess up.' I look at it as an opportunity to play, and to play at home is icing on the cake."

But for those of you who grew-up with Floyd, don't plan on calling him for tickets.

"I'm getting six tickets (per game) all year," Floyd said. "Dad gets three and Mom gets three. And my phone will be off from 9:30 in the morning until after the game. So it's cool. We have to pay for the tickets now, and sometimes you give them to someone and they don't come to the game. That costs me 30 bucks.

"This will be good. They (each) get their three tickets. And they can take the calls because my phone will be off.

Speaking of Coomer, I saw him at the convention and he must be on the "Little Debbie Diet."

I think he was on that diet when he was a Cub.

Speaking of Billy Mueller, I wonder what his status is? There really hasn't been much mention of him anywhere. He got hurt with the Dodgers last year and I haven't heard from him since. He's not listed on the 40 man roster with LA. Betemit is penciled in at 3b in LA.

Is he done? If he's healthy and not under contract, he'd make a great 25th man. He can play 2b, 3b and would be very solid off the bench.

Whoops. Nevermind. It appears he retired in November and will earn his salary for 2007 as a special assistant to Ned Colletti.

Yeah, definitely retired. Guy went from the peak of his career in 03-04 to retired 2 years later.

What about Kenny Lofton? Of all the "born Cub fans" who return to Chicago to play for the Cubs, Lofton sure as hell had as much impact as any player in the last decade. Unfortunately, it only last half a season.
