Two-plus years removed from the Cubs' TV booth, Stone remains the most insightful baseball analyst in Chicago. So it's no wonder WSCR-AM 670 was determined to re-sign him.

In a deal that will be announced Wednesday, Stone has agreed to a weekly schedule that includes an in-studio Monday session with "Boers and Bernstein," a Wednesday call-in segment with Mike North and Thursday hits with Mike Murphy. Murphy and Stone will co-host 15 shows from remote locations, giving Score fans the chance to mingle with Stone, who also will chime in on breaking news.

"His analysis is the best in the business," WSCR general manager Paul Agase said. "He makes all of our listeners more [knowledgeable] about baseball."

He also gives the White Sox's flagship station a strong Cubs presence.

But while Chicago radio listeners will get their fill, Stone has no TV deals lined up. Stone last month hired Chicago-based agent Steve Mandell and praised him as "outstanding."

"This is one of the few times where I can voluntarily say I'm not doing as much TV or radio as I would like," Stone said. "I love calling baseball games. I still have the opportunity to go to games, and that's great.

"That's the reality of it. I'm one of the [ESPN] guys who didn't have a contract past last year, and they have obligations to other guys. You do what you can do. Short of buying a baseball team, and Lord knows I've tried to, you can't create opportunities for yourself."

Kornheiser is returning to terrestrial radio with a weekday show on Washington Post Radio (1500 AM and 107.7 FM, DC area) that will air 8:30-10:30am ET starting Feb. 20. The show has been picked up by XM with a slight delay.

PR Newswire[/url]"] Tony Kornheiser -- sportswriter, columnist, ESPN commentator, humorist, and author -- will be heard nationwide on XM Satellite Radio starting March 5.

Kornheiser's new radio show, originating from Washington Post Radio (WTWP) in Washington, D.C., will air from coast to coast on XM's sports talk radio channel XM Sports Nation (XM Channel 144) Monday through Friday from 9 am to 11 am ET. Tony will also host special shows exclusively for the XM Radio audience on a regular basis. ...

"The Tony Kornheiser Show" is the latest addition to XM Sports Nation, the 24-hour sports talk radio channel that features exclusive shows hosted by leading sports figures such as Cal Ripken, Jr., Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jimmie Johnson, and Mike Krzyzewski. The channel provides round-the-clock coverage of the latest news and hottest topics in the sporting world.

cowherd at least makes observations about sports, and although completely wrong 95% of the time--it still qualifies him as being better than rome, who rarely makes comments about anything on-field, only philosophical issues.

I missed hearing Tony on the radio - it was his best venue, imho. This makes me all the more happy I just bought my husband an inno - I'll be able to record this :) It makes me wish that my workplace could actually receive an XM signal...

I wish they'd give Kornheiser the 3-6 eastern slot so I could hear it. I liked his show because he never had interviews with professional athletes. Plus the Drive on XM 142 is pretty awful alot of the time.

Steve Stone is one of the better baseball analyst in the game. Good to know he will stay with a Chicago radio station.

Cue the Stone haters to rip this post to shreds in 3.......2........1.......

Personally, I found him informative. I learned a lot from him as a boy watching a game that he and Harry would call. I never found him to be stuck up or "Captian Obvious." But, to each his own, I guess.

Glad Stone will be back. Best baseball color analyst in the business, period. I always make a point of going out for lunch on the days he does his pow-wow with Murph. Good stuff.

I don't like Rome, but at least he wasn't stupid enough to guarantee the Bears would be one and done like Cowherd. That guy's just an idiot.

I think Stone is great, and I'm glad to have him on Chicago radio, even if it is The Score, which I'm not a huge fan of.

It's a shame how things broke down between the Cubs and Stone. It was always fun to hear Stone predict a pitch and then watch the pitch go right where he predicted. Not every time, of course, but more often than not.

I wish they'd give him Dan Patrick's 1-4 national slot. Don't know if that would screw with PTI, though.

edit: Wasn't thinking, by "they" I mean the radio gods.
