Haven't seen this posted, but if so, my apologies.

He's not the only Cubs pitcher who lost weight this offseason. Ryan Dempster is much trimmer. Scott Eyre has dropped a few pounds. But Wood's change is the most dramatic.

The good news is that Wood's shoulder is cooperating. He's been throwing for two months, and there are no restrictions on what he can do on the mound.

"I'm letting it go and throwing all my pitches," Wood said. "It's nice to go on the mound and actually work on stuff instead of worrying if it's going to hurt. It's nice to get up and go."

I hope everything works out well for Wood. Going through 2 months w/o any issues gives me some hope.

That's really nice to hear. I'd love it if he could make the switch back to starting more quickly than Smoltz did it.

We're in P&C and we havent heard anything negative thus far.

It's a miracle.

Let keep it that way!

It is going to happen but I just hope it's because of soreness and not the usual Cub company line of we're going to wait a couple of weeks and see and then it turns into August and we find out one of the pitchers actually had their arm amputated in March.

I would settle for a closer similar to Smoltz, but that's just me. 8-)

Any news on Prior or Miller?

some article (Daily Herald?) said Prior was ahead of Miller, who is in the long-toss phase of his rehab. didnt say where prior was, though.

Well, at the very least, we've known Prior has been on the "throwing off the mound" phase since mid-January. That's definitely an improvement from past years.

Prior even standing on the mound is an improvement over the past few years.

I really hope those three can all come back and come close to their old form. One, it would be the best thing that could happen to the Cubs, and two, it would make all the people who said their careers are over eat crow.

One good thing about the spending spree is that the entire focus in ST is not on the injured pitchers, which should help them because they probably won't press quite as hard.

few pitchers pitch at 100%. as far as i know teams dont rehab players (especially pitchers) in the majors.

Miller was nowhere near even 90% when he was pitching last year. And teams, although not officially, rehab pitchers in the majors all the time. What do you call Wood's 2000 season? Or any pitcher coming off a major surgery, like Tommy John, that needs that year to get fully healthy?

John Smoltz's career as a closer essentially started as a way to rehab his arm, IIRC.

call it what you will but it all depends on how you define "rehabilitation". he will still be recovering from his surgery in 2007 but i highly doubt the cubs or any other team would consider him as rehabing.

So the week before he made it to Wrigley he was just "working out the kinks" in AAA?
