"I am now prepared to sit out the year if the Bears don't trade me or release me," Briggs told FOXSports.com via cell phone Monday. "I've played my last snap for them. I'll never play another down for Chicago again."

yuck yuck yuck

Jerry Angelo is amazing. Wow.

its official. i'm stunned it happened so quickly.

It sounded like they had a basic agreement once the deadline passed, so I'm not that surprised. It's certainly nice to have it done two days before camp begins, though.

I was fully expecting him to symbolically sit out at least part of training camp, if not all the preseason. But I was certain he'd be around for all 16 games.

I wonder how the "Bears are having a disastrous offseason" crowd will respond.

Won't we be returning 20 starters from last year now (minus Tank & TJ)? Yeah, real disastrous LOL.

I expected him to miss a couple games, actually. I figured he'd sit out most of training camp and when he came back would be symbolically benched for a few games because he "wasn't ready."

Things worked out in this whole Briggs thing. This is all very funny considering the Bears just locked up Tillman and Vasher. The Bears pay their players. Anyone who still says the Bears are still a cheap organization is wrong. Sounds like some decision were made about who is worth keeping for their price and who isn't. I think it also says a lot about who the Org. thinks is ultimately replaceable.

I'm ready for camp!

Technically, didn't Ian Scott start at DT over Tank?

Yep, the Bears will have 3 different starters from last year. Scott gets replaced by Adams, who is probably a better player. Jones gets replaced by Benson, who is probably a better player. Danieal Manning's still on the team, but gets replaced by Archuleta, who is....wait for it....probably a better player.

Horrible offseason indeed.

But...but...but....we still have Gross Man....HAHAHA...oh I made a funny...nobody's ever come up with that joke before...it's hiiiii-larious.

Absolutely fan-freaking-tastic Bears related article written by Downey today.

I'm so sick of the national media's obsession with the supposed downfall of the Bears. They are easily the best run organization in the NFC, and by far the best team. All the nonsense written about their demise was nothing but ill-informed BS. The over-the-top Grossman criticism*, the non-stop "what a terrible offseason" garbage, it's all meaningless.

*My favorite is the continued insistence by many that the Bears stand no chance of winning, let alone getting to a Super Bowl with a QB like Grossman, even after they made the Super Bowl and held a lead for a good portion of it this year. If they can't win in the postseason with a guy like Grossman, what the hell did they do last year? Freaking morons.

I think you will see more tinkering during the upcoming offseason.

If Grossman does not play well he will have to move on for his own sanity. This should be Moose's final year with us (unless he plays like he's 25, though there is little reason to believe he will), particularly if Bradley and Hester play well. The O-Line is almost eligible for their League pension. Other than Kruetz and Garza, I would not rely on any of them beyond 07'. I'd also be surprised if one of our overpaid DE's isn't traded or cut.

Come on, let's enjoy 2007 first. It's gonna be a great season.

i don't understand why people think the bears won't be very good next season, either.

it's probably a better team, and i can't think of a downgrade at all except for loss of depth at running back. losing tank hurts, but neither he nor scott were anything very special or irreplaceable.

the season will still hinge on rex developing some sort of pocket presence and patience, but i'm fairly excited about our prospects.

losing tank hurts,

I don't think it does. I said long before his legal issues that I was tremendously disappointed in his play. He didn't impress me in the least and I think he's quite easily replacable.

Tank was playing out of position at the NT. He is a UT, a poor and I mean VERY POOR man's Tommie Harris. They need someone better vs. the run.

It seems clear the national media holds a grudge against us, and I can't figure out why. Is there some long-held hatred of Chicago nationally that I never realized existed? It doesn't seem like the national reporters hate the Cubs this much, so maybe people hate on the Bears still from the 1985 days?

What really starts to bother me is when our local reports begin to buy in to it. You're right, who the hell could possibly argue Grossman can't take us to a Super Bowl when he just did? That's the most ridiculous argument I've ever heard in my life.

I could see Greg Olsen starting by opening day too, if not at some point in the season. That would also, likely, be an improvement, despite Clark's nice year last year.

Yeah, that was always strange to me when they were back to back picks in the draft a few years back. They were the same exact type of player. And it didn't make a lot of sense to play them together.

Dr. Z, of SI, has talked about a feud with people inside the Bears organization a while back, and has referred to a disagreement with Jerry Angelo when he was with the Giants.

Peter King is a Patriots/Cowboys lover. Anything they do is gold. New England perhaps rightfully so. But he's a generalist. He talks about headlines and such and doesn't really investigate much. He's an entertaining writer, but not a good football writer. He'd fit right in with the PR types running ESPN.

Rick Reilly simply doesn't no jack squat about sports. He knows things that happened in the 60's. And he knows about handicapped and otherwise challenged people who try and participate in sports. But he doesn't know anything about organized sports right now.

Traditionally speaking the Bears are a poorly run team. They had a chance of fielding a dynasty in the mid 80's but blew it on stupidity. Then went in the toilet thanks to the Ditka/ownership feud and Wannstedt failures. It's the tried and true storyline. But for some reason none of them have realized that Ted Philips (a non-football guy), Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith have completely blown away the old stereotype of Bears mismanagement.

Not in the blocking dept. Clark should start. Olsen should get significant time though.

I'd really like to see is a formation with Berrian and Bradley on the outside. Olsen in the slot. Hester and Wolfe as split backs. Get Olsen on a nickel back, probably a good 5 inches shorter. Get 2 fast RBs on LBs or safeties.

That made me LOL...for some reason. I hate Reilly though. The way he trashed Grossman with personal attacks after the Superbowl was completely uncalled for.

Don Banks might be the fairest football writer on CNNsi, and he still likes to get his Grossman digs in.

He's a guy who has said you can't win in the postseason with Grossman, both before and after the Bears won in the postseason with Grossman. He hates Grossman, with a passion. And he's relied heavily on the "terrible offseason" myth.
