Cubs got a C- overall.

Major Leagues: F

Minor Leagues: B

Talent Level: C

Player Procurement: B

Organization Direction: C

The Dodgers were the organization of the year and the Tigers got an A while the Twins and Mets each got an A-.

what goes into this ranking? I don't understand how they give the minor leagues a B when they will turn around in a month or two and say the Cubs have crappy prospects.

Well, they'll probably do that and that's because that's not what they're grading in the minor league section:

MINOR LEAGUES. How the organization's minor league affiliates performed, along with notable accomplishments and changes or stability in the farm system.

I don't get how they can rank our Minor Leagues so high.

There's not a single position player in our system of value, and there hasn't been since Grace came through the system.

Our minor leagues are dismal.

Well, two of the minor league teams made the playoffs. Many others were over .500. That's the sort of thing they're rating in the "Minor League" section. Talent level got a well-deserved C.

MAJOR LEAGUERS. How the team performed in the big leagues

MINOR LEAGUES. How the organization's minor league affiliates performed, along with notable accomplishments and changes or stability in the farm system.

TALENT LEVEL. The quality and depth of players in the farm system, as well as the contributions of young players in the majors.

PLAYER PROCUREMENT. Talent brought into the organization through trades or the draft.

ORGANIZATION DIRECTION. A Catch-all that considers stability and quality of leadership, improvement over previous years, bang for the buck and general outlook of the franchise.

The Dodgers are the Organization of the year? HA! ROFLMFAO...

There goes the credibility.

?

In case you didn't know the Dodgers sorta have a good farm system.

Incase you sorta don't know the Dodgers gave Pierre $50 million dollars. I can understand the Cubs system rating low. But I don't understand why the "Major League" got an F? I mean we were the most aggressive team in the offseason. Got the top 2 men on offense, improved the bullpen and bench a bit, and stabilized the SP. I don't see how that deserves an F. They lost all credibility right from the start. I can understand maybe a C or something. But F? What do they think we'll finish last again? What a laugh.

That was based on how they performed, not how well they will perform.

It was a review, not a preview.

How did the Cubs earn a B for player procurement? They haven't been the least bit creative or smart about upgrading the big league team, they've just relied on the brute force of a jumbo-sized wallet. They have certainly added talent at the big league level, but they have paid top dollar for every bit of it. Any bozo could have done that.

As UK points out, this was a review - it counted last offseason (2005-2006) and the 2006 regular season. The "Major League" grade was based on the Cubs winning 66 games, certainly F-worthy. Not what the Cubs did this offseason.

And turned Milton Bradley into Andre Ethier and signed Nomar on the cheap last offseason.

They have done a good job of adding talent though (and this includes the minors - they finally got back into the Latin market and had a great draft especially considering the picks they were missing).
