He's been clearly better than Manning, especially down the stretch. If he plays in the p-offs like he has in the last four games, he'll be fine.

It hasn't taken much to be better than Manning. He's been terrible.

Bears fans talking about beating winning teams?? The only two winning teams the Bears have beaten are the Seahawks and the Jets.

The Vikings and Giants were both winning teams when we faced them.

And there's only 5 winning teams in all of the NFC, and we've beaten the one of those that we've faced, so it's not like anyone in the NFC has faced a lot of stiff competition.

Not to mention that if the Giants and Packers hadn't played us this year, they'd be at .500

Ok, I'm reaching here..

I'm getting the feeling the Bears are going to try and go all out this game. They've been in cruise control for about a month now, and have rested plenty of guys down the stretch. They'll want to go into the playoffs on a high note, and nothing would be higher than really destroying GB, which they are obviously capable of doing. I'm looking for a Briggs INT return for a TD.

I'd hope so, but that just doesn't seem like Lovie's style. But then again, the pieces are in place.

1. Month of indifference

2. Reminder of last year

3. Vs. Green Bay

4. Lots of doubters (but maybe they want it this way)

5. Prime time

Giants were the sure super bowl pick according to ESPN when we faced them. Afterwards, they went into a downward spiral from which they never recovered.

And guess what? The same happened to Seattle. They've never been the same since we destroyed them at Soldier Field. A division winner in name only.

I think injuries to both teams have more to do with that than us destroying them when we played them.

It's hard for me to really put a finger on what Lovie's style is, with regards to this situation. Obviously last year they treated the last game like a preseason scrimmage. But that doesn't mean Lovie is stuck on such a plan. The one theme they've had down the stretch is extreme caution as it pertains to guys who are already banged up. If you're the least bit questionable, you're sitting. Lots of guys who sat probably would have played if there were more meaningful games. But I have to believe most of those guys are healthy now. I could see Lovie wanting the DC and OC to throw in a couple wrinkles to make the opposition think about what might be in store come Jan 13/14, but I'm guessing they'll keep the overall strategy rather plain. But that's really all you need to beat the crap out of Favre and the Packers.

Injuries are no excuse. Everyone has injuries. You either overcome them, or you aren't good enough to. And that's it.

Being that he is a new coach, I think he's gonna try a lot of different things. Resting players last year didn't work, I think he will throw everybody out there for at least a half this game.

lot's of 'the Bears haven't beaten anybody' talk lately, both in the threads and in the media. let's look at the wins against .500+ competition by the playoff bound teams

NFC

Chi - Sea, NYJ

Philly - Dallas (x2)

Dallas - Tenn, Indy (do they count as a team with a winning record anymore?)

NO - Philly, Dallas

Sea - Denver

AFC

SD - Tenn, Denver (x2), KC, Sea

Indy - Jax, NYJ, Tenn, Den, NE, Philly, Cincy

Balt - SD, NO, Tenn, KC

NE - NYJ, Cincy, Chi, Jax

NJY - Tenn, NE

Den - KC, NE, Balt, Cincy

conclusion, the only teams with a half way impressive resumes are the flailing Colts and the going nowhere Broncos.

Well ESPN still blows. Nice reporting they're doing on this Grossman situation. Maybe if someone looked at the facts they'd realize this is a non-story.

Anyone else seen the schedule for next year? Wow. At San Diego, Seattle, Oakland, Philadelphia, and Washington. Home against Denver, Kansas City, Dallas, New Orleans, New York. Plus all the divisional games.

Yeah UMfan83 posted that near the end of the game thread from last week. It's definitely gonna be tougher, but on the bright side they won't be able to say we haven't played anybody this time next year... :D

Yeah for real. I still think they'll be good next year, but it's gonna be a hell of a lot harder.

The nice thing is that next year they'll have some more depth on the d-line with Dusty back, and hopefully (assuming all turns out well with his hammie) Tommie will be back. They'll, hopefully, address the safety position early in the draft, because it looks like Mike Brown is on his last legs, no pun intended.

Add in the fact that Rex will have a whole year (hopefully with a deep playoff run) and another offseason under his belt, and the team should be looking even better next year.

It certainly seems to have set the tone for the remainder of their seasons.

Besides, I doubt Coughlin or Holmgren would dare play the injury card. Using injuries as a reason for failure is a fallacious argument----it supposes that the norm for NFL teams is a relatively injury-free campaign, which is completely false. Teams must have capable backups at every position, or they just simply aren't all that good.

When it comes to Seattle and NY----those ballclubs have had many of their injured players returning lately, and are arguably playing even worse now than they did when they were more severely "handicapped" with injury.

Posted

Coughlin might...anything to avoid responsibility for the horrible job he's done the last two years. He's positively Dustyesque in every sense of the word.

(Except he never batted behind Hank Aaron...and his bad player that gets to play for no apparent reason really is his son-in-law)

Posted

I doubt Coughlin will do it, but then again, I would never have believed the Giants (and the Cowboys, for that matter) could wind up such an undisciplined, 'me-first' ballclub. I know they've got egos on that roster, but I thought Coughlin was a different sort of coach than the kind that lets the inmates run the asylum.

I think alot of people are thinking they might have overestimated Coughlin. I'm one of them.

ESPN has some smart people working for them. Preseason picks: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/preview06/news/story?id=2568742

No worse than the MLB guys who, ONCE THE PLAYOFF FIELD HAD ALREADY BEEN DECIDED, had zero analysts predict a STL vs. DET World Series. None.

Lots of "Colts vs. Panthers" picks out there, which, in the preseason, seemed like a pretty safe choice. None of us saw Carolina sucking it up like this

Jones (ankle) and Ruben Brown (shoulder) were listed as probably today. Tillman (back), McKie (ankle), Tait (ankle), and Joe (hamstring) are listed as questionable.

For the Packers, Woodson, Green, and Driver are all probable, although they did miss practice today.
