Good to see Vandy doin well. David Price and Pedro Alvarez are two of the classiest guys around.

And great to see Virginia being elite, they got quite a Newport Gulls connection goin on out there.

Ouch.

I'm afraid to even ask how much that'll raise his ERA.

Does anyone know a site that lists probable starting pitchers for college baseball games?

I think David Price might be pitching tonight, and if he is, I'll go to the game and check out the future Cub ace.

Without an intimate knowledge of the situation, I'd say it's highly doubtful Price pitches today. Games in the middle of the week are typically non-conference affairs that managers let their 3rd, 4th, or 5th starters pitch in. Weekend series will be your best shot to see Price, being the ace he'll pitch almost exclusively on Friday nights of those 3 game weekend sets.

Yep, but Vandy has two midweek games scheduled this week, and I believe they usually go with a 4-man rotation, so it's at least possible that Price could pitch today and still pitch on Saturday.

I really wish there was a reliable site for college starters.

Avid college baseball fan. No way he throws in a meaningless mid-week game at this point in the year. Conference games are the only thing that matters at this point.

I went to Columbia on Saturday to watch the Gamecocks play Kentucky. Had a fun time. I have pics and took some video, but I'll have to post some at a later date.

A few noteworthy things:

-While Kentucky was taking their BP, I believe it was DeJesus (they didn't have jerseys on, but it looked like it was him) was in CF shagging fly balls. The guy taking BP hits a long fly to the wall in CF. The outfield wall in Columbia is made of metal and if a ball hits it, it makes this loud, terrible sound. DeJesus tries to make this great play at the wall and ends up SLAMMING into the wall, making the loudest noise. When he runs into the wall he immediately falls down on the ground. Needless to say, the wall won. He was okay, I just wish I'd gotten it on my camera.

-I saw a SC player get hit in the helmet/face with a pitched ball. He had a gash right by his eye and had to leave the game. I have pics of that which I'll post.

-I ended up sitting right next to one of the USC quarterbacks.

-It started raining rather hard in the last few innings, so we left early. Gamecocks lost the game. :(

How did he look aside from that misadventure? He was a high school teammate of mine.

The Hawkeyes are having their best season in a while and are currently tied for 3rd in the Big Ten at 14-8 (26-15 overall). Jack Dahm has done a heck of a job getting the program on track.

The offense was supposed to be the strength, but has exceeded expectations. They're 7th nationally in batting average, 16th in runs, and 22nd in slugging.

Travis Sweet is a Junior to keep an eye on. As a sophomore he was a singles hitting 2B who struck out a fair amount. This year he's hitting .422/.487/.645 with 7 HR and 42 RBI, 19 walks to 22 K's, and 20 stolen bases (unfortunately in 32 attempts).

In the 22 Big Ten games he's hit .410/.495/.710, 5 HR, 20 RBI. He's now playing CF and has been solid defensively. Sweet went to the same high school as Ryan Sweeney.

Hopefully the Hawks can find their way into the NCAA's, but it will likely take winning the Big Ten Tournament. Although if they find a way to finish 2nd overall, they may have a shot at an at-large with a good showing in the BTT.

UCLA leads the Pac-10 by one game over ASU with a big showdown this weekend in Tempe. Tyson Brummett is the man.

He had 3 hits. I got a video of the first AB of the game (maybe first pitch?), in which he got a HBP. Later in the game he had an amusing AB in which he fouled off at least 5 pitches in a row to the same two sections. By the 5th foul the people in those sections were yelling at him. Seems like one of those guys that is very frustrating if you're the other team.

Can I ask why in the hell would an outfield wall be made of metal? That seems really really stupid.

It's not made of solid steel or anything. When a ball (or person) hits it, it sounds like an aluminum shed. I thought it was odd as well, but we've seen stranger (a wall made of brick?).
