Wonderful job Cali Raisin, my only bone of contention is how BA ranked Crosby and Kennedy of Mike Young and they Young a token Dh, I might have to challenge them on that, Young was decent at SS defense wise, but people have lost sight that if Orlando Hudson and Boone werent at 2nd base when Young was playing 2nd, Young would have won the gold glove at ss!

Aaron Fit chat at BA

Lots of schools that NSBB posters like are represented in the chat (South Carolina, ASU, Tulane, Penn State, Florida, Georgia Tech, College of Charleston come to mind). Also some talk of 07 and 08 draft prospects (Brackman, Pedro Alvarez, Smoak).

The best sentence of the chat is this:

And if you asked me today who is going to win the national championship in 2008, I'd say either Miami or UCLA.

Our rivals site is reporting that Sam Dyson is out for the year for South Carolina. Very unfortunate news for a team hoping to make a run at the title.

Top fifty freshman and top twnety five transfers

Oregon State began defense of their national championship in style. They beat Hawaii-Hilo 5-0 on a combined no-hitter by four pitchers. The only other no-hitters in school history were in 1947 and 1967. Must be something about years ending in "7." :D

Any info on LeMoyne?
Most likely to win the Metro Atlantic.

Best players are SP Bobby Blevins, SS Parrino, and they have good freshman by the name of Chris Edmondson (OF).

Thanks UK. Pete Hoy is their pitching coach and he's worked with a few of my kids. He's done a nice job with them but for some reason they have never been interested in giving one a scholarship.

Bad Influence (a bar): Are there any prospects not currently signed with a major league team (high school, college, or foreign) that really stand out from the rest in terms of having high-impact talent? Who's the next Upton, Prior or Matsuzaka?

Kevin Goldstein: I think Vanderbilt's David Price is your best bet and the Next Big Thing. He's the favorite to go No. 1 in June and one scout recently assessed him as, "a lot like Andrew Miller, only way better."

anyways we should have a callis or goldstein q and a here. tim do your thing.

How about getting Wilken on here and asking him some questions not only about 07 draft but other questions about the Cubs since he's been here?

Alan Matthews, who is in Southern California for the Angels fanfest, attended the San Diego-Southern California game tonight and called with another glowing report about USD lefthander Brian Matusz. The sophomore struck out 13 over six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks, but did not factor in the decision as the Trojans scored four runs against the USD bullpen and went on to win 6-2. Matthews reports that Matusz worked in the 91-92 mph range with his fastball, touching 93, and his secondary stuff drew raves from assembled scouts. Matthews estimated that Matusz’ changeup could rate as a 65 pitch on the 20-80 scouting scale, and his curveball could be a 55. His command was erratic at times, but scouts love his sound delivery and 6-foot-4 frame. The Trojans scored most of their runs against sophomore lefty Ricardo Pecina, but senior righty Anthony Slama made a good impression against the one batter he faced (and retired), running his fastball up to 92.

hes an 08er so i put it here.

I saw South Carolina play at the UNC-W tourney this weekend. I was left with one impression: this team can mash. Even with Justin Smoak off to a slow start, we still scored 30+ runs. Here's a name to look out for in '09: Lonnie Chisenhall. The kid is huge, can play a couple positions, and, oh by the way, tears the cover off of the ball. I really think my boys can win it all this year.

Chisenhall was BA's #1 Freshman.
I'll be honest, I don't follow BA or the high school rankings. I just follow South Carolina and then get to know the other players around the SEC as I follow my boys. That being said, I was really impressed with Chisenhall. I am so pumped about our season. This really could be the year.
