The Cubs are looking to hire an assistant general manager, according to baseball sources, and interim team President John McDonough would not deny the rumors.

"I'm not in a position to talk about it at this time," McDonough said Thursday.

The move would take some of the workload off vice president/general manager Jim Hendry, who recently underwent an angioplasty and has been told by doctors to scale back on a hectic schedule.

Depodesta would be great in that role. A Hendry-Depodesta tandem could balance the scouting with a statistical mindset. If the two could forge a common ground, I think it would be a great combination.

Funny.

I nominate goony's evil twin.

Now that would be funny.

I think some of the folks here should apply. I am not kidding. The days of having to be a "baseball guy" are over.

I agree. Might be a long shot, but it would be nice knowing that the AGM reads nsbb regularly.

Just imagine if they hired someone from NSBB. The Cubs payroll would be 300 Million in the off seasaon. Then when they don't win everygame, the Cubs would trade every high dollar player and call up AAA guys because we need to see what the kids can do. :D

Goony might kill someone his first week.

I'm available for the right price.

I'm available even if the price isn't right. I'm retired and have been a Cub fan over 50 years, so a little extra spending cash, decent seats for the games, and knowing I would have some input in improving the team would do the trick for me.

An assistant that is well versed on stats would go a long way towards moving this club into the new millenium.

Looking up and down the major league and minor league rosters, Hendry gives me the impression he's anti-stats. That may not be the case, but the list of available players he's acquired (except Murton) over the years sure looks like it.

And the Cubs would have a 50-man roster because they'd sign everybody whom everybody here likes.

Either that or we'd be calling for the person's immediate firing

Can't afford the paycut. Remember it's the Tribco, and they spent all the money.

It's always about the money with you baseball people.

No, no. With Mike Hampton, it was about the Denver school system. (My all-time favorite.)
