I would think that if you intend to apply you should harp on your applicable experience - if you have a degree or background in statistical analysis for example. If you are just going to say, "I am a die hard Cubs fan and watch lots of baseball", I think you'll find they will place your app ever so gently in the circular drawer.

Heh, my thoughts as well.

I'd probaby go "Do you know what is a OBP? How about a WHIP? Or how about OPS?

Then go on to explain the OBP. In baseball statistics, on base percentage (OBP) (sometimes referred to as on base average [OBA], as the statistic is rarely presented as a true percentage) is a measure of how often a batter reaches base for any reason other than a fielding error, fielder's choice, fielder's obstruction, or catcher's interference (the latter two are ignored as either times-on-base [TOB] or plate appearances in calculating OBP). OBP is added to slugging average to determine on-base plus slugging (OPS).

Yeah, that should get me the job.

Well, where do I fax my resume?

Not sure. But if you want to mail it, send it to:

Jim Hendry

Chicago Cubs

1060 W. Addison

Chicago, IL

Cover Letter

Dear Mr. Hendry

I am a life long Cubs Fan, and would very much like to be considered for the Assistant General Manager Position. I watch baseball everyday on television and occasionally partially drunk in person. I have excellent player evaluation skills. During a house party in 2002, I told a random person that Mark Belhorn would be an MVP candidate in two years. I am also very proud of my baseball playing career. I played pitcher and outfield on my town's 7th grade B team. In two innings I once had 5 strikeout, along with 6 walks, 3 wild pitches, and I cried in front of everyone when the ball was hit back to me.

I also have wonderful decision making abilities. I gave my fiance a Neifi Perez jersey for an anniversary present. She said she wanted a diamond heart pendant, but Mr. Hendry, I know women as much as I know baseball.

Please call me to set up an interview

Sincerely,

Nik Nadkarni

AM 1000 is reporting the Cubs will name Randy Bush Asst. GM this week. Said he is a special assistant under Hendry presently.

Isn't he a MacPhail guy?

He played under MacPhail in Minnesota. Not sure how much of a disciple he is in terms of front office work.
