Not sure if this has been posted...but if the Marlins can get Upton for Nolasco as the centerpiece, it would make me boil at bit.

Devil Rays: Rocco Baldelli continues to be mentioned in trade rumors with the Braves, White Sox and Orioles. The Rays are most interested in acquiring starting pitching. Names in play for Atlanta include Chuck James, Kyle Davies or Jarrod Saltalamacchia; Brandon McCarthy or Jon Garland for the White sox; and Daniel Cabrera, Hayden Penn or Adam Loewen for the O's.

According to the St. Petersburg Times, the Devil Rays turned down a trade deal that would have sent B.J. Upton to the Marlins for Ricky Nolasco. MLB.com has learned that the Marlins have interest in Upton to play center field, and they also are talking about dealing with Tampa Bay for Seth McClung, a right-hander who has started but would be a closer candidate for the Marlins.

The Marlins are exploring multi-player deals with Tampa Bay which could land them Upton and McClung. Nolasco, according to an MLB.com source, is one of the names being tossed around in a possible move with Tampa Bay. Also, Peter Gammons of ESPN reports the Marlins are considering trading a pitching prospect for outfielder David Murphy, a center field candidate. The Marlins have had interest in Murphy since before the July 31 trade deadline.

Nolasco would sure look nice in our rotation next summer!

he really wasn't much better than Marshall last year, and most people seem willing to give away sean for just about anything.

Thank you.

The reason for that is obvious, though.

Nolasco through June: 66 1/3 IP, 71 H, 24 ER, 48 K, 17 BB, 1.43 WHIP, 3.24 ERA

Juan Pierre through June: .240/.276/.309

I agree that Nolasco and Marshall posted similar seasons last season but Nolasco has a higher ceiling and is likely to have a better career (and I'm not one of those people who quickly soured on Marshall).

It was a good offer. Tampa better hope one of those outfielders knows how to pitch come Spring Training. Doesn't look like they are going to get any of them moved at this point.

The Cubs could offer Marshal plus another pitcher which would tip the scale to the Cubs.

The biggest difference in their numbers was the BB, especially if you look at both of their numbers as starters. Everything else was strikingly similar. Those extra BB though made a difference on ER.

And I don't know why you think people are willing to give him away for anything. Most of the talk I heard was to net a starter such as Westbrook, or in deals to upgrade SS or CF. I'd hardly say people are willing to give him away.

I guess I should say that most weren't clamoring for him to be in the rotation in 2007.

That would be a fair assessment. Though before we knew we were huge spenders some, including me, likely would have supported it.
