Chicago Cubs pitcher Les Walrond will visit hospitalized veterans Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., as part of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Celebrity Entertainment Program.

Walrond is scheduled to visit the hospital at 10 a.m., signing autographs, presenting patients with Cubs and DAV souvenirs and helping brighten the day for those who have sacrificed so much for the cause of freedom.

The left-handed Walrond appeared in 10 games for the Cubs in 2006 and has also played for the Kansas City Royals during his major league career. He was originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 13th round of the 1998 draft out of the University of Kansas.

Once again proving that not every bad player is a bad person.

I am truly grateful for guys like that.

Les was a pleasure to be around. He seemed truly appreciative of his chance to pitch in the majors. At the end of the season, he said that was one reason he'd like to sign back with the Cubs.

It's a nice gesture by Les but I'm thinking he's gonna hear a lot of 'who the heck are you?'

Of course, that can be said for plenty of relief pitchers and the like who have put in a lot more innings than Les.

I'm sure he'll be in his Cubs uniform and that'll still be pretty special for those being visited.

From everything I've read and the Iowa broadcasts I've listened to, it sounds like he was a quality guy in the minors too - both in and out of the clubhouse.

See here's where you have it all wrong.

Bad players who make a lot of money are BAD PEOPLE.

Bad players who make peanuts are nice and we root for them.

Well, hopefully at the end of the season when we're up twenty games, we can call Les back up and let him eat a few innings to rest Z's arm. :D
