Jason Hirsh come on down to the SouthSide!

You gotta love that trade (assuming it's back on now). But, I still think the Sox move Hirsh and Gonzalez for another bat.

I have a feeling Kenny Williams has some other trade brewing.

per ESPNNews

Mussina, Wang, Johnson, Pettitte and Igawa (assuming they reach a deal with him).

Just like Jaret Wright a few weeks ago, it sure sounds like the Carl Pavano experiment is over in the Big Apple.

They will undoubtedly try to dump him on somebody - who is very desperate other than Baltimore? Toronto? Giants? Astros?

Willis, Tejada, and maybe even A-Rod make the most sense.

That would be a good deal for the Sox, if they were to land Hirsh. But you would have to think that they want to contend again in 07, so I'm sure that would just be part of a bigger package to land a top player.

I don't think they're any worse off than this year for trading Garland and inserting McCarthy into the rotation.

McCarthy

HirshNot too bad, I guess.

Let's not forget that McCarthy and Hirsh are prospects, so the rotation isn't that strong.

McCarthy is a step ahead of a prospect, and he's had some success at the major league level. As a starter, he has a 4.12 ERA in 67.2 IP.

Wow. Jayson Stark claims that Pettitte offered to return to the Astros for $2M less than the Yankees offer -- which would have been $2M more than the Astros' original offer, thus splitting the difference between the two offers -- but that the Astros didn't pony up due to pressure from the Commissioner's Office over the Carlos Lee deal. Huh?

ESPN.com[/url]"] Why? Good question. The buzz around baseball is that MLB officials -- particularly commissioner Bud Selig -- weren't happy with the Astros for giving $100 million over six years to free agent Carlos Lee. So owner Drayton McLane might be trying to placate MLB's hard-liners by attempting to hold down the rest of his payroll.

Wow, that sucks for Houston. Wonder if the Commisioner's Office is sniffing around Wrigley because of the Soriano deal - if they were, the Trib/Hendry are obviously not going the same route as McLane.
