LoL, how in the hell is this winter meetings news..

David Wells remains almost certain to retire, but he has indicated to Padres GM Kevin Towers that he's leaving the door cracked a bit. Towers said Wells recently returned from a safari trip to Africa. "Three hours away from Mt. Kilimanjaro," Towers said. "He went by himself. No running water, electricity." Wells told the GM that a terrible smell came into his tent one day, and it took a minute to finally figure it out: A hyena was sniffing around just on the other side of the tent wall -- the smell apparently was hyena breath.

I'll tell you how...... okay, no I won't.

Ravech: Big news out of San Diego: David Wells is not dead!

Phillips: This is great news for San Diego, they realy came out big this winter's meetings

Kruk: Chone Figgins will be MVP in 2007!

Boston Globe[/url]"]The Sox should have a better sense of whether Julio Lugo will be their shortstop in 2007 after they meet this afternoon with the Levinson brothers, Lugo's agents.

Boston's chief rival for Lugo's services would appear to be the Mets, who want Lugo to play second base; it is believed Lugo's preference is to play short for the Sox. The Cubs could still jump in, but there were strong indications that they are out.

Not sure where to post this, but ESPN News just announed that they'll have the Jock on at 3:40 ET to discuss the Cubs' offseason thus far. Interesting they're having him on as he's involved in many trade talks.

That is interesting, also because he hasnt said much since saying how Dusty was a huge reason to come to the Cubs.

Please someone watch and report

Why have the Red Sox not signed JD Drew yet after being reported they agreed like 2 weeks ago? Why don't we jump in on that stationary wagon?

Because all the Illini fans would get angry we stole a player who made a verbal commitment elsewhere!

From Rotoworld

The Mariners met with Ted Lilly's agent, Larry O'Brien, on Tuesday.

The Cubs and Blue Jays are believed to have four-year offers worth about $10 million per year on the table to Lilly. It's unclear whether the Mariners will visit that territory. If they do, Lilly would likely have some interest in pitching for a West Coast team.

So what if Lilly signs with another team..This would totally upset Hendry..Does he then push harder for Schimt or does he go after Suppan,Meche or someone we dont really want...Is it better we sign Lilly or we dont...I dont see him signing anyone else really if we get Lilly

Say no to Lilly. His mechanics are so bad. Maybe that is why he is always seemingly injured.

I dont want him really..But then I think again, he won 15 games with a team with no sticks..Was in a tough division posting a 4.31 ERA which isnt that bad..I can see him coming to wrigley and winning about 17 games..

Lilly's mechanics seem OK to me since he smoothed them out a few years ago. That he is an undistinguished pitcher is another matter.

Hmm. Maybe he shouldn't just give his phone number out to anyone and everyone.

I feel hes not the answer for the Cubs, but, I feel bad for the guy,Some people are out there are just wackjobs..Its just wrong to call and harass someone or yell racial stuff at him..Remember its just baseball.. Also the guy hit .285 and hit 27 HR's and had one of his best years ever here..I don't think anyone would want to play anywhere where that stuff is happening to them

Call me crazy, but I still want Jacque playing CF if Hendry refuses to significantly upgrade SS.

I'm absolutely with you there. Jones is a better option than Lofton or Lugo in center.

Or if he can significantly upgrade the outfield. Jacque had a career year at the plate last year and was horrible in the field, I don't see him putting up the same numbers again this year and I have no desire to see him try and throw someone out at the plate again only to have the ball land 20 ft in front of the base, 2nd base that is.
