We are all in utter bewilderment that Hendry sees Izturis as something more than a 25th man at the end of the bench, meanwhile a far superior player in just about every way imagineable will sign elsewhere because Hendry would rather play the guy completely out of position.

 

What is Hendry's deal this offseason regarding the offense, anyway?

 

1) Wants a lefty bat and is willing to deal Jones to get one. :scratch:

2) Signs Soriano and really has no idea where he wants to put him.

3) Signs veteran utility player DeRosa to be his everyday 2b.

4) Wants Lugo to play CF. Why would Lugo want to play CF when he is being offered SS jobs? How about offering Lugo the SS job, then switch him to CF after he signs if you MUST play Izturis? That experiment probably wouldn't last long anyway when it is confirmed Neifi is actually better than Izturis.

5) Still views Murton as a platoon player when he has absolutely no one to platoon him with.

 

Okay, off my rant. The summary I have come to with all the above is that Jason Schmidt MUST be signed immediately. :D

From what I've read, Boston wants him at SS and the Mets want him at 2b.

Again, I don't believe Hendry has actually said that he needed to be platooned. It might have been insinuated (and not very clearly), but never a flat-out statement.

 

Jason Schmidt MUST be signed immediately. :D

According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Royals and Cardinals are the finalists for Miguel Batista.

 

The Royals knew they'd have to overpay and overpay they have, as Rosenthal says they've offered Batista $24 million for three years. It's unclear whether the Cardinals are offering three years. They might be at something like $6 million-$7 million per year for two seasons. If the Royals get him, they'd undoubtedly be hoping he performs a little better than he did in his previous stint with the team. He had a 7.74 ERA in 57 innings with Kansas City in 2000.

Towers said Wells recently returned from a safari trip to Africa. "Three hours away from Mt. Kilimanjaro," Towers said. "He went by himself. No running water, electricity." Wells told the GM that a terrible smell came into his tent one day, and it took a minute to finally figure it out: A hyena was sniffing around just on the other side of the tent wall -- the smell apparently was hyena breath.
