Funny... a few weeks ago, I suggested 3/24 and got laughed at for "overpaying."

It is definitely overpaying, whether you suggested it or Boston offered it.

...or perhaps there are some on this message board who don't have a firm grasp on the current market situation?

I dont know who laughed at you but the rumors from the very beginning of the offseason were 4/32, so I don't see how 3/24 was that earth shattering of a prediction. Considering the SS market next offseason, this is a very very good move if they dont want to use Pedoria there.

Isn't Pedroia a 2B not a SS?

He's just a middle infielder. I think he played both in the minors, though I don't have anything to back that up. He played some SS with the Red Sox this year though.

He's played both but projected at 2B.

Red Sox would rather move him to 2b, but would have been fine leaving him at SS if a better 2b option came along or Lugo signed elsewhere.

Pedroia is starting, and will most likely be at 2b to begin the season.

According to sources, Julio Lugo’s Red Sox deal is worth in the neighborhood of $35 million to $36 million, an average of $8.5 million to $9 million per season. Lugo turned down offers from the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets to come to the Red Sox, largely because he wanted to play short.

We just HAD to have him as our CF'er didn't we, Jim? Dolt.

At $9M, I didn't want him at SS either.

Better him at $9MM than Izturis at $4MM if you ask me

I'd rather have Theriot at the league minimum than Izturis at $4MM too.

likewise, but we all know the Cubs brass doesn't have the smarts we possess.
