Kent signing with the Pirates would be all it would take to return them to the halcyon days of the early 1990's.

Last season Pittsburgh won 67 games. Early statistical analysis of 2007 puts Mercker at being worth at least 44 wins by himself. That would put the Pirates at 111 wins, 14 more than any team in baseball had last season.

I don't understand the man-love for Merker.

What he said.

don't you get it he stinks so it's funny to pretend he's awesome lol

you aren't funny.

kent mercker would be a great addition to the 2007 cubs.

lol thank kent for this post.

All good things come from Kent.

The Cubs came within 5 outs of winning the National League in 2003. Kent Mercker joined the Cubs in 2004. The Cubs haven't sniffed the playoffs since then.

Kent works in mysterious ways. It's true that the Cobs have yet to win another World Serious, however this offseason they have taken great steps toward ridding themselves of a harmful management team. Perhaps this is a case of Kent teaching the Cobs to win a baseball championship, instead of just giving them one.

Here's my theory. It's more of a theology really. Basically the Cubs ran Kent out of town unceremoniously. You could say that the Cubs were his chosen people, yet they for lack of a better word, "crucified" him. He rose again with the Reds. When he returns to the Cubs, it will usher in a new kingdom for 1000 years, a new "millennial kingdom" if you will. During this reign the Cubs will win every game of every season. When this happens, all who follow other teams will be separated from Kent and will be punished by never beating the Cubs. Followers of other teams, gentiles of the baseball world, who follow Kent will swear allegiance to Kent above all others and be allowed to thrive in his kingdom despite the errors of their past.

Yet another example of how muddled the purpose of this "Rivalries" forum is.

Does it now encompass "trades, free agent signings, etc. - either real or imagined?"

And 5 people pissing on the corpse of an unfunny joke forum.

Alas, Kent pitching on the North Shore of Pittsburgh took a hit yesterday w/ The braves pulling the LaRoche trade off the table.

Trading Gonzo would have opened up a spot in the bullpen for Kent.

A Sad day, indeed.

I sooo wanted to see Kent in Black and Gold!

You would have to avert your eyes or risk death. No one can behold the full glory of Kent and live.

Teams who have Kent should sell those eskimo snow goggles with little slits in them on days he pitches.

Legend has it that Kent was converted from a starter to the bullpen because the glory of him pitching 7-9 innings at a time was too much to behold. By moving him to the bullpen, his grace was more evenly dispersed.

this past april i was lucky enough to be seated just 2 rows behind Kent while he was sitting in the bullpen...i forgot my shades and sunblock and was Kentburned badly...it was well worth it though, for I have seen the Light and the Glory...and He blessed me with a head nod and tip of the cap after proclaiming my eternal love for Him.

Kent is Spartacus.

Kent is Neo.

Kent is Harry Potter.

Kent is more than all of those people combined

Kent is the lovechild of Mia Hamm and Nomar.

Wrong again. Kent just IS a mediocre pitcher.
