My guess is MacPhail could be his successor.

That's pretty much the consensus pick from what I'm gathering.

I have no idea why this is news, we knew his time was drawing close anyway.

I will laugh if MacPhail is made new commish.

I believe it was Dan Bernstein who mentioned this a few months back, but George W. Bush could be a decent commisioner when his presidential term is over. Not that it would ever happen, but it would be interesting nonetheless!

After 8 years of screwing up the country, he could screw up MLB.

McFailure can run MLB into the ground, just like he did with the Cubs.

Why would anyone consider this idiot for the commish job?

Because he was instrumental in getting the last two labor agreements worked out.

The results on the field weren't great, but MacPhail was the president of the business that is the Chicago Cubs, and he did not come anywhere close to running that business into the ground.

MacPhail put his ambitions of becoming commissioner over the success of the Cubs. That is why you never saw any major FA signings for the Cubs. He didn't want to be viewed as someone responsible for driving up salaries and payrolls. He sucks. MacPail getting the commish job would be a slap in the face to all Cub fans, IMO.

Yeah, so what? I didn't like him as the Cubs president either. That doesn't mean he wasn't successful at his job and isn't a good candidate for commish.
