According to Jerry Crasnick, at ESPN.com, free-agent RHP Joe Borowski failed a physical due to problems in his shoulder that nullified a multi-year agreement with the Phillies.

…so, apparently the phillies are in the market for a relief pitcher…and are willing to dish out a long-term deal to get one…

Brorowski struggled with shoulder problems during most of the 2004 season. Over the last two seasons, with Tampa Bay and the Marlins, he was 4–8 with a 3.80 ERA.

It would be interesting to see the Cubs with an all right-handed lineup in 07.

I'm glad he had two years with the Cubs when he made over $2M. Seemed like a good guy. I rooted for him, but I do have a hard time feeling sorry for someone who made more in a year than I'll make in my entire life.

Interesting isn't necessarily bad.

Wow, that's really surprising. He was really consistent for the Marlins last year, and saved my fantasy baseball season with his saves. Never seemed like anything was wrong with him.

With Soriano and Murton for the corners, I don't have any interest in Burrell any longer.

If the Phillies want to talk about dealing Jimmy Rollins, I'd listen.

1. It's not guaranteed Soriano will be at a corner OF spot, he'd certainly have max value in CF.

2. Rollins is going nowhere.

3. The $64 question: can Matt Murton play RF? I don't see why not, his arm is certainly no weaker than Jones'.

Burrell, Soriano and Murton, you'll need to convince me what's wrong with that outfield offense. Big production.

I hear the Cubs would move him to CF.

I don't see Mr. Hendry going all righty like that though, he's pretty old school when it comes to that IMO.

Agreed. Anyone willing to discuss an outfield with Dunn/Murton or Manny/Murton should be OK with Burrell/Soriano/Murton.

It's a lineup dominated by RH bats, but check out the 3-yr. OPS splits vs. RH pitching:

Soriano .842

Burrell .837

Murton .787

Lee .934

Ramirez .925

Barrett .810

DeRosa .686

And what's the trade-off?

vs RH / vs LH

Jones .826 / .650

Burrell .837 / .958

IMO, if Burrell can be convinced to accept the trade, Eyre + Jones gets it done today and only adds $4-5 mil. to payroll.

Pie (later in the season), Moore, and perhaps Floyd (as 4th OF) would all be opportunities to put a LH bat and/or more defense in the lineup.

Nothing sadder than a professional ATHLETE failing a physical

If he failed because he was out of shape, yeah you make a good point. But this is because of his shoulder.

Yeah, this isn't everybody line up for the turn your head and cough, then take your blood pressure physical you get in high school. They take a pretty serious look at the dude's shoulder and Joe's can't be pretty.

I'll bet it's every bit as ugly as the landfills he grew up in.
