I was hoping for Hendry to come out and say he had some breaking news of signing Jason Schmibt or some other pitcher..... Hopefully that comes within the next week..

Shoot, I'm missing this. I can't say I remember ever hearing Soriano speak before

I wouldn't exactly say you're "missing" anything.

"We understand you've been missing a lot of work, Peter."

"I wouldn't say I've been missing it, Bob."

I'm surprised no one asked him if he'd be playing winter ball.

Maybe they were told ahead of time that it was off-limits.

He has a very heavy accent and is fairly hard to understand through it at times. He said all the things you would expect him to say, it was a short thing.

Nice pix, thx for those of us at work :)

He's an interesting guy---all smiles, ready to go. He does know we lost nearly 100 games last year, right? Or maybe the Trib advanced him his first paycheck

Alfonso was obviously a bit nervous in this introduction. Not very comfortable with speaking English.

His family needed to look happier though, they just hit the jackpot.

In the press conference article on Cubs.com, it says Hendry announced that he asked Soriano not to play and that he agreed. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people in the organization above Hendry who also didn't want to see Soriano playing any winter ball either.

Funny this didn't come up while they were negotiating a $136 million contract.
