At the C. Lee press conference, the Astros GM just said they signed Woody Williams to a 2 year, 12.5 million deal with an option for a 3rd year @ 7 million.

In related news, an unidentified corpse that once threw a baseball 40 years ago is being courted by 5-6 MLB teams, rumor is a 5 year contract around 6-7 million per year.

Woody Williams as an Astro is another move that weakens the Central, presuming he is really replacing Clemens or Pettite. Fine with me.

Who are the Astros starters besides Oswalt and Wandy Rodriguez? I don't know much about Woody, but if he turns out to be their 2/3 starter, I'd be very happy.

Amen.

I think this signing actually makes the Astros worse.

The C Lee signing helps though. I do wish he had gone somewhere else.

I doubt Wandy starts if they can help it.

Jason Hirsh looks like a possible stud, Taylor Bucholz isn't too terribly good or bad, and now Woody. I bet they re-sign Pettitte.

I don't see how this contract is surprising, or bad. He was 12-5 last year, while putting up a 3.65 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He probably could have got more than 6 million.

I wouldn't want him on the Cubs next year just because of his age, but his deal is pretty good.

This is the quintessential "meh" signing.

I'm not scared of the guy. He's slightly above average when he's healthy enough to pitch. The money isn't so bad that it actively hurts the Astros, but it's not so cheap that they're getting a good deal that allows them to spend the money elsewhere.

It's a signing, I know this for certain... but I really can't imagine this turning out good or bad for the Astros.
