Free agent Carlos Lee has an offer on the table of at least $70 million for five years, an AL club official told the Houston Chronicle.

Another major league official who has negotiated with Lee's representative also has been told that one team has put a six-year deal on the table for Lee. The Astros apparently haven't improved their original offer, which was for at least $60 million over five years. However, GM Tim Purpura did talk with Lee's agent multiple times on Tuesday. The Astros, Orioles and Phillies are believed to be the strongest suitors for Lee.

Oh god I thought that title meant the Cubs had offered him that. You tryin to kill me Uber?

I'd put the team name, but it's not really clear which team offered it, since an AL official reported it and the Orioles aren't believed to have offered anything yet.

there's an la times article today that says that Lee doesn't want to go to the West Coast. Would that leave the Orioles?Red Sox? Astros? Cubs?

The Astros have upped their offer to Lee to 5/73.

Link.

The Astros made an initial offer to Lee last week in excess of $12 million for no less than five years. They have since raised the offer into the five-year, $73 million range, according to a high-ranking National League official.

I know Berkman will back at his "normal position" of 1B starting 2007, but could you guys imagine a OF that consist of Lee and Berkman, defensively?

The hilarity that would have follow, would have been great.
