Let's imagine a best case scenario for a second on our rotation.

Let's say we sign Schmidt and that Prior pitches like even 85% of his former self.

Z, Schmidt, Hill, Prior, Miller/Marshall/Guzman/Random FA

That rotation would be up there with the good ol' days of 2003. Would probably be better, considering you don't have the black hole of Estes anywhere in there.

Imagine if Schmidt and Prior both matched their 2003 seasons.

Schmidt would be FANTASTIC.

Amen. A few months back my top two priorities as a fan were Schmidt number 1, and Soriano number 2. Make it happen Hendry!

I remember reading that Schmidt has had some injury problems in the past. Is this anything that we should be concerned about? We don't need another SP missing time.

The lowest number of starts he's made in the past 5 years is 29. Going back 10 years, the lowest numbers are 11 starts in 2000 and only 25 starts in 2001. That's pretty durable.

Schmidt for 20 games at 13 mil > Marquis for 60 games for free

Exactly. And I see you used the C++ greater-than operator - well played... (inside geek joke from last night)

Lets do this yesterday. If this happens, I will be forced to be optimistic about the 2007 Chicago Cubs.....we might even hit that magic 83 win mark

And in the nat'l league that might be enough.

If Hendry can sign Schmidt, he is officially off my Get Fired list. He's made a lot of mistakes the last several years, but if he can nail 3 of the top 5 free agents in one offseason (ARam, Sori and Schmidt, vs. Matsuzaka and Zito) then I will be duly impressed.

Please swing a trade at the winter meetings in two weeks to rid us of Jock, Little Caesar and Dempster, Jim Hendry.

If we get Schmidt, that's a solid top three of Z/Schmidt/Hill. If Prior/Miller can fill another slot and one of the billion kids can fill the 5th, we're golden.

Of course, if Hendry can get Jake Westbrook instead of relying on the kids, more power to him. :D

It would be nice to sit down at the table on T-day and know that Fonzie, Schmidt,Floyd were all in the fold aready.

I can see giving thanks for Soriano, and Schmidt. But is Floyd really that important of a peice?

No not really I just think it has pretty good chance of getting wrapped up this week. It is nice to see Jim actually sign a good bench player though. Floyd is a power left handed bat off the bench late in the game and can play first base or left field plus DH for the interleague games.

Floyd over Mabry is a pretty big upgrade.

Who would you prefer as your 4th outfielder/pinch hitter extroidinare, Freddy Bynum or Cliff Floyd?

Sure I'll take Floyd at $2 mil. He ain't gonna go for that though.

Fixed.

Haha, point conceded.

It will be interesting if he'll take the role. They better not promise him a full platoon in left field. But if it came down to $2 million to start for the Royals or $5 million to sit on our bench, wonder what he'll take.
