I have been laughing so hard reading these posts. Soriano not a good player? Soriano overrated?

 

he is a good player, but he's also overrated. he's being paid like one of the best players in baseball, and he clearly isn't.

And I agree with you that he doesn't deserve to get a $136 million dollar contract. But I will never consider him to be overrated.

Pujols is the games best fastball hitter. He has great plate discipline, plays a solid D at 1B, gets on base, hits for power, hits for a high average, team player, and he runs the bases well. And he has a MVP award.

Instead of reading about 70 pages I'm going to step out on a limb and say the reaction was negative.

You're missing a category. There are people who are still unsure, and want to wait to hear the official numbers of the deal. Put me in that category.

Personally I rather like the move. While I'm not terribly excited about 8 years (but then again, who is?), I am very happy to have him here. As far as the deal I see Hendry as partially stuck in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. If he doesn't sign anyone big people will call him stupid for not trying and if he does pay an insane deal that todays STUPID baseball market demands, people say hes wasting money.

 

That's actually where most people are -- good to see them make a splash and get some talent, bad to see them go so many years and oh so many dollars on someone who is nearly my age. Then someone called someone else's mother fat or something and all hell broke loose.

Soriano is the best free agent position player.He is getting paid accordingly. Arods contract averages 25 mil a year,Jeter 19 mil.Those contracts were also signed a few years ago. If they were free agents,they would be getting more than Soriano. Hes in the right place at the right time.

I agree. Of course Soriano is a huge upgrade, but it's something we could have done a different way for a cheaper price.

GMs don't pay more than they think a player is worth. If they don't think they're worth the money, they wouldn't pay it.
