Despite my sn, it is hard for me to unravel the sarcasm here. I know Brian is being sarcastic, but is everyone who is ridiculing him joking around too?

I wasn't quite certain that's why I made my 2nd post so obviously ridiculous, I'm still not sure if it was picked up.

God Brian, you're such a troll. You and your 6000+ posts since 2004. Geez.

Did Bruce say what the exact numbers were for the deal?

I don't think he knows that aspect any better than the other (conflicting) reports.

What I've gathered from this thread:

*It's roughly 5ishyears/$90ish Million guarenteed, with options for the last 2-3 years and a no trade clause covering just the first five years. No word, that I've seen, on how it's spread out.

Rule #1 for the people new to following baseball transactions: Never believe blogs, message boards, or sports journalists (with the occasional exception for the last category).

In case anyone thought Jacque Jones' 3 year deal was untradeable....

Assuming Bruce is accurate, I can't think of anyone other than Drew that I would want in CF than Jones. Lugo is going to cost nearly twice as much and is at best an equal hitter. I'd prefer to trade Jones and move Sori to CF where his production is more valuable because there are better options to upgrade in RF than CF. But I guess it all depends on what Jones could net us in a trade.

actually, my point was more that people hated Jones' deal because it was 3 years. Well 8 years on Soriano is almost completely untradeable without eating money (a la A-Rod)

doesn't the having a NTC for the first five years make it a NTC for the duration of the contract since he would be 10-5 if those options are picked up.

This is a big budget team. Eating a few million dollars a year shouldn't be an issue for them, especially considering how effectively this team has wasted its money in the past.

Lou Piniella on WGN Radio right now.

Edit: Says he plans to bat Soriano lead-off.

anything else of interest?

Talking about DeRosa's versatility.

Says they now need to address pitching.

It seems they plan on playing Soriano at one of the corners. Hmmm.

Sorry, I had to post this.

According to this blog, Drew is signing with the Cubs and Zito personally called Jim Hendry.

Honestly, the Drew thing is possible, but not all that probable. The Zito thing is ridiculous.

well, i wouldn't be surprised if zito or boras called hendry personally and said he'd be interested in playing for the cubs.

more suitors = better contract
