So were still looking for a CF and pitching....According to them

That's gotta be Lugo because I think Drew is out of their price range now

I don't think we know the what the true payroll will be. If the cubs move Ohman and Jones to Cleveland for Westbrook as rumored we could add drew and another free starter like Meche or Lilly.

no way soriano plays RF. he's here for CF or LF.

Bruce Miles challenges your statement.

"The Cubs plan to have Soriano play centerfield and bat lead-off, giving them three players who have hit 35 or more home runs in a season in their starting lineup. With Soriano in the fold, the Cubs will next turn towards acquiring a starting pitcher or two."

so who is right btwn the two?

Come on, Paul Sullivan or Bruce? Is there any reason to debate? I'm guessing he is playing RF.

I think the fact that Piniella just said on WGN that he plans on using Soriano at one of the corner positions makes Bruce right.

I'll put my money on Bruce being right. Sullivan is a goober.

Miles....Piniella was just on the radio...and said they will be looking to add a CF....So that obviously means Soriano will be playing a corner

I take issue with that.

Sorry, I had to post this.

According to this blog, Drew is signing with the Cubs and Zito personally called Jim Hendry.

Honestly, the Drew thing is possible, but not all that probable. The Zito thing is ridiculous.

Why is it so ridiculous that Zito called Hendry. If I was a FA and saw the money Hendry is throwing around, I'd call him in a second.

I don't know. Boras maybe. But Zito personally calling Jim Hendry? I don't buy it.

Signing Drew now is a bad idea. We need the money for one of the Starters. Then we need to trade for one, of course.

when will the cubs realize it's the .203 EqA from their shortstops that's holding their offense back?

The Cubs don't know what EqA is. They think someone just misspelled ERA.

Rotoworld is reporting CF:

The Chicago Tribune says Alfonso Soriano, who is only a physical away from finalizing a $136 million contract, will play center field and bat leadoff for the Cubs.

At least they're trying him at the right position. Having him hit leadoff doesn't maximize his value, but it's what he prefers and it probably doesn't make much difference. The Cubs could be looking at a lineup of: CF Soriano, 2B Mark DeRosa, 1B Derrek Lee, 3B Aramis Ramirez, RF Jacque Jones, C Michael Barrett, LF Matt Murton and SS Cesar Izturis. It's a group that should contend if the Cubs spend about $15 million-$20 million per year to address their rotation. If they make the mistake of trading Barrett because they think they have enough offense without him, that would hurt their chances. Barrett has an 843 OPS to Soriano's 848 mark the last three years.

Sign Meche/Lilly. Trade Jones's contract. Sign Drew. I don't think it's that impossible. Who knows, the payroll maybe be bigger than the 115-120 that we've been hearing.

Its (not) funny cause its true.

I don't think that is really the case. Most teams have a weak hitter at some point in the lineup. Barrett's plus abilities on offense help offset weak hitters at SS. Generally, I would say one bad hitter in the lineup, particularly a great defensive shortstop, can't be pointed to as the single problem with an offense.

You mean rotoworld is passing along that the Trib is "reporting" CF. And by reporting I mean assuming.
