guys, face it - it took what hendry offered to get the deal done and get it done quick. if he gets into a bidding war with the angels/yankees/phillies/etc. who knows how it turns out.

if he doesn't sign soriano for a few million more, everyone complains. he does what it takes to bring an exciting player to wrigley and everyone complains. just sit back and enjoy having another 40-homer guy in the linup next season. maybe this shows JH learned his lesson in the beltran deal.

Our very own Mr. Miles is reporting that Soriano will play RF, with Jacque possibly moving to CF.

no, please be wrong. soriano is a lot more valuable in center than right.

who the hell cares? it's the same exact players. what does 'value at his position' mean in that case? do you just want the best sabr stats for purely aesthetic reasons?

if Jock in center and Soriano in right is the best defense, that's the way it sould be.

because if jones is traded is lessens the chance of jim acquiring a crappy hitting centerfielder (which there are plenty of) to play there. it's easier to find good production out of a corner outfield spot. if the outfield is guaranteed to be murton/jones/soriano this year, then i don't care. but for the future considerations i want soriano in center.

I'm told he's here to play right field and definitely NOT center. Murton is said to be "safe" in LF. The plan now is to put Jones in CF and say good luck and godspeed to Juan Pierre. Now if you can trade Jones...

I know people here (including me) generally put more faith in you than in other news writers, but other articles I've seen say that Soriano will play CF. Of course, they could just be guessing. How sure are you that RF is the plan for Soriano?

Brilliant to say adios to Juan - glad they resisted the temptation there.

What about our Manny and Drew chances? Lugo? Have you heard anything?

Don't know if it's been brought up yet, but if the Cubs plan on having Soriano play CF, does this make Pie expendable? Does he go in a trade to get a pitcher or another big-time bat?

you just blew my mind

Izturis + Pie for Manny?

Then you have 4 outfielders in Jones, Manny, Soriano, Murton.

Wow, JC!

Welcome back!

I thought it best to lay low during the Baker Fallout Tour.

Yeah, those were fun times. You missed a great ARam thread, though. Much swearing abound.

Well, Jones' arm would be an upgrade in center....hold it....

Why not develop Pie as a corner guy?

I doubt Soriano will be able play CF as well as Pie does.

Wow, Soriano in right, possibly Lugo in center, Jacque on another team as part of a Manny package?

=P~

Where does Manny play? This isn't beer league softball with four OFs.

I don't want Lugo in the OF if he's signed.

Leading off a game with a home run is a huge start. Teams that score first in the first inning have a much better chance of winning. I don't know the exact numbers, but they are greatly towards the team scoring first. A leadoff homerun gets the team jacked up from the start.

The one thing better than leading off a game with a HR is leading off the game will multiple runs. A guy who can get on base better and costs significantly less allowing you to invest elsewhere is better than the half dozen or so leadoff homers Sori will hit. Drew, Lugo>>>>>>Soriano, Izturis

Do you think Hendry considers his offseason work (offensively, not pitching) done, and he won't go out of his way to get another significant bat? Or is he still not satisfied and is looking to get another SS or CF?

Drew = injury prone, no thanks.

He plays left, obviously. Murton is the 4th man or on another team.

I'd prefer Lugo at short too, but I'll take him however I can get him.

I think your original reaction was a bit over the top if that was your thinking on the matter. and if all that is your problem, then just put him at second.

plus, exactly 6 rightfielders had an OPS over 833 last year. the same exact number of centerfielders who had an OPS over 837 last year.

Way to wuss out of the fun.

Probably one of my better uses of discretion. I did miss you at the last Wusses Anonymous meeting, though, Raisin.

i'd actually prefer soriano at 2nd, but i think derosa is there for the long haul.

and was 2006 just a fluke down year for rf's? or is it more the norm?
