Cubs.com has a rumor that Cobs made a 4yr $60m offer to Drew at 12:01am. Source was an LA radio station (grain of salt)

Wow.

I heard some talk on XM that he just wanted out of LA and may actually end up just taking more years somewhere else at 10 or 11 million per?

I still want to put Drew in RF, and sign Dave Roberts as a bridge to Felix Pie

in Center.

This would allow us to move Jacque Jones and his terrible defense.

hard to imagine offering drew more than ramirez . . .

co-sign!

edit: it's funny to think of the vast improvement in obp just by replacing juan pierre with roberts and jones with drew. wow!

Unless that was part of why Aramis came back and gave the discount-to allow JH to be more aggressive in improving the offense.

Drew's OBP is like 40 to 50 points higher. Also its hard to imagine Aram getting more than Dlee. Things can be weird.

If you think about it, that kind of contract might not be all to suprising if Hendry really is changing his style. Last year he was the slowest GM in baseball, and made barely any moves at the beginning of the offseason. Now, he will make a quick strike at a top FA target. That would be his final offer. If Drew and Boras took to long to look at the offer, and weren't definitive on an answer, Hendry will have moved on to another target for the the OF in a week or so. At least im hoping thats what this kind of large offer would mean.

I don't see any of Boras guys signing quickly. Especially if the Cubs and Red Sox are both interested. He will use them to drive up the price.

I dunno, at 15per how much more can he realistically drive it up. Maybe add an option year, but I can't see much else.

Who knows if this even has any truth though. We shall see.

After age 28 season ARam gets a 5/73

After age 29 season DLee got a 5/65

So after age 30 season, Jim is probably thinking 4/50.

It would be quite nice to have the middle of your order locked up for 4 years at present day fair to good value given the direction the market is going.

Now that our own house is in order, and Matsuzaka is still just a waiting game... Drew would now become my #1 priority.

I'd go 5/65 right now if I knew that's what it would take to get it done. And the great part is, I think he'll end up being much cheaper than that!

Checked the mentioned station and it was in fact LA's ESPN Radio (710 AM). The poster also had like 700 posts so it doesn't look like he's a random newbie troll. He also mentioned they said that it could be done by tonight, and that yesterday they said ARam wasn't coming back for sure so to take them with a grain of salt or something.

Thanks for the heads up, will listen to 710 (though I'm sure it's wall-to-wall NFL coverage despite no NFL teams in LA).

Please Jim, get this deal done. This would be an amazing day to be a Cubs fan if we get Wood, Aramis, and Drew locked up. (how often do we say that?)

I'm also looking at the fact it's Monday morning right now in Japan. Maybe get some good news about Matsuzaka...?

Very true.

I would love to have a 3, 4, 5 of Drew, Lee, and Ramirez locked up for about 4 years. Drew and his HUGE OBP infront of Lee and Ram. That would be really nice.

Really?

I think if you're batting Drew in front of Lee and Aram, you might as well bat him second.

Murton, Drew, Lee, Aramis would look nice.

Though I'm still somewhat predisposed to using Drew to break up Lee and Aramis...

I'm taking this with a HUGE grain of salt...the same rumor is posted (by the same guy I think) on the Angels message board, but says that WGN radio is the source...

http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=ml-angels&msg=75751.1&ctx=0

Yeah it has to be bogus. First he said it was on LA radio at the Cubs board, then he said on WGN radio on the Angels board. Oh well, still a good day. :D

I think its bogus! Isnt he not a good teamate by the way? Just wondering?

Supposedly hes quiet and stays to himself, no one said he was a bad teammate that I heard.
