You've got to be kidding me...that's terrible.

If it's true, I wonder how Mike and the Mad Dog feel about their chat on Monday...

I don't know if any of this is serious, but Mike and Mad Dog need to own up if it is. Seriously, there is a certain level of criticism that athletes need to learn to take, especially in a big market. But there is also a line that should not be crossed. Some might think it's "entertainment" to drag a guy through the mud on the public airwaves. I do not.

Most of the NY media need a wake up call. It's unfortunate that it had to happen like this...

What did they say about Lidle on Monday?

I tend to tune out the soap opera stuff, so I'm also unaware of what was said. I find it unlikely that any media personalities will come out asking forgiveness for raking an athlete over the coals, however.

okay, now it's on espn.com

still no proof it was suicide. could have just been an accident

Who said anything about Suicide?

Honestly, it was your comments that put it in my mind.

Own up to what, if not some sort level of culpability?

Also, USSoccer said "Most of the NY media need a wake up call. It's unfortunate that it had to happen like this..."

Same deal.

Yes, I said that. My immediate reaction (based on what has happened recently) was that it was suicide. It isn't that far fetched if you've followed along with recent events. I hope it's not true

They said his words were a dig on Torre. He called in to say he was not ripping Torre, then they went back and forth about misquoting, out of context and all that. It wasn't about him not being prepared. It was about whether or not Torre was the man for the job and whether or not Lidle's "the team was not prepared" comments meant Torre did not prepare them.

Hope you guys listen to this; the link is above. Its attack dog journalism - he's a crappy pitcher on a baseball tgeam, not the President. That said, Lidle is backing up the truck.

I don't blame you, and I apologize if it sounded like I did. It's a pretty fair first thought, and in fact, it may be proven to be true . . . just not yet.

no far fetched? He disagree with radio guys about what his words meant. I think it's very far fetched.

EDIT: The logic they are using in assailing Lidle is faulty. Lidle could have been saying that the team stinks and we should have been better prepared, but that's our fault, not Torre's. I think they wanted this story to blow up, as usual.

He called in. They didn't say much of anything, until he called in to say "we weren't prepared" was taken the wrong way. He was talking in cliches, and they asked him how he could say what he said and it not meaning that Torre didn't have them prepared.

oohh . . . sloppy quoting on my part - I meant to address Derwood who was quoted within your post. Sorry :)

He received his pilot's license in July.

There are reports that the plane was smoking before it crashed.

He broadcast a Mayday and reportedly was frantically looking for someplace to land.

It sounds like a tragic accident.

I didn' mean to imply suicide in my original post. I apologize if that's how it came off. When I mused how Mike & Mad Dog would feel, it was mostly because a guy they were torching 3 days ago was now dead, regardless of cause.

M&MD want the Mets game cancelled.

I'm not sure I agree, based on this alone*. But it might get rained out anyway, so combine the conditions with that fact, and it might be a good idea.

*They wouldn't have cancelled the game if this was a normal civilian that crashed.

They wouldn't have cancelled if this was a Marlin, nor if it was a Ranger, Jet, Giant or Knick. I don't really get why they'd cancel. You'd hear, out of respect, but what does that mean? Is it really disrespectful to a baseball player to play a game on the day of his death when he's not involved on the team. I don't think it is.

But the weather does play a factor.

Fox News speculating he may have been trying to avoid an oncoming aircraft. No mention (on live TV) of the plane smoking before the crash. Surprised there is no report from the airport about whether he logged a flight plan

I can imagine. Definetly puts things in perspective.

The descriptions would be based on eyewitness reports and are sure to vary.

CNN now saying they think there were two people on board and two in the condo that the plane crashed into. The NTSB will be having an initial press conference in a few minutes.
