Of course, the refs handed the game to Washington. I disagree that Illinois was better by the tournament last season.

well, we can just say that it's debateable and that neither team was clearly better. UW won the big game, but if played 10 more times, who knows?

BTW-UW is my 2nd favorite college team, though. i lived right next door to the campus for 3 years.

I think what helps them a lot is Brandon Roy is the only guy on either team from last season that could take over the game.

no kidding, but i'd still contend that having one very good player doesn't necessarily give you the advantage over another team if the other team is well coached.

that said, i think romar outcoached weber down the stretch in that one.

Memphis I think is simultaneously overrated and underrated. Overrated because of their joke schedule/conference which means their record belies their true level, yet underrated because no one really sees them and they're deep and crazy athletic.

On a related note, does it seem to anyone else that there are a lot of teams that are young this year? I swear everytime I look at a good team they're graduating zero or one player of importance. Georgetown, Memphis, Kansas, UCLA, Texas, Michigan State, Ohio State, Washington State, Southern Illinois, just off the top of my head.

Memphis needs to shoot better from the FT line. I believe they were 4th from the bottom in the NCAA in FT %.

Wow. Douglas-Roberts is the only regular who shoots at least 70%, and they have 3 regulars shooting under 50%.

I didn't think it got worse than the 1 for 2 Illini.

Despite rumors that the Pac-10 Tournament might split its locations between LA and another venue (San Jose was the most popular choice, but Anaheim, Portland and Seattle were under consideration too), the tournament will remain at Staples for the next 5 years (Lute Olsen and Oregon coach Ernie Kent are not too pleased).

One thing I do like about this Illini team is they play defense so well, if they ever have a good shooting game they can beat anybody.

You know, it'd be really cool if Illinois could score more than a point per minute.

EDIT: Illinois is on pace to score 34 points.
