Not the prettiest of wins, but it's a win against a pretty good team.

11-point victory against the best or second best team in the NBA? That's a beautiful win.

very nice....can they finally break out of 3rd place? It seems like they're treading water

They're tied with the Cavs esentially for second place in the Central and are 1 game back of the Pistons for the best recond in the East. Given their recent history of finishing the season strong, I like where they stand.

I just hope we have better success on this west coast trip than the one earlier this year.

Great win tonight. Anytime you beat a top Western Conference team, it's a good win.

To Bulls fans: I've seen in the last couple days about trades concerning Gasol and the Bulls giving up Ben Gordon... This would seem counter productive to me as much as I like Thabo, is he really ready to play 35 minutes @ the 2? I don't really think so.

Would you deal:

Luol Deng

PJ Brown

Malik Allen

Knick pick (if Memphis demands it...)

for

Pau Gasol

Hakim Warrick

Warrick essentially becomes the 7th man as another hybrid 3/4 like Tyrus which could be a valuable chip down the road. We'd then turn our efforts to re-signing Nocioni to a reasonable deal before he'd go on the RFA market where he could price himself out of the Bulls range while also attempting to retain Gordon the following season.

I'm a HUGE Deng fan, but this would put us in a primo spot to win the East...

Looking for everyone else's thoughts on this...

I would rather trade Gordon than Deng. I think Deng is just a more special player, with a brighter future. I would offer this....

Nocioni, Thomas, Knicks Pick, PJ for Gasol and Warrick. If they want more, I walk away and go with what we've got for now.

I'm extremely hesitant to make any deals. Just as presently constructed, this unit can and probably should win the East.

I like Mark's trade. Don't get me wrong, I really like Deng as well. But we have much more depth at the 3 with Nocioni and Thomas to fill in if Deng is traded for Pau. I would more than likely go ahead and pull the trigger on that deal.

I'm hanging on to Deng and Gordon if I'm Paxson. Still lots of assets West might want. I'd hold out and call his bluff. If it doesn't happen before the deadline, could happen during the off-season -- after you find out where the Knicks' pick falls.

I just think Deng is too special to include in a deal for Gasol. He is only 21 years old and is averaging 18 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He is long and is a much better defender than Gordon too. Regardless of who is behind them, you don't move Luol Deng as part of a package for Gasol. Gordon averages 3 more points per game than Deng, but he doesn't do all the other things Luol does, and he is much closer to a finished product than Deng. I like them both, but if the Bulls had to trade one of them, I would move Gordon.

See, I see this as a great opportunity to grab the lead in the East while it is at its weakest. I would agree to hold out to see if you can sub in Nocioni for Deng (would be a huge coup for Pax if he could keep the big three, but I really doubt he's able to do it).

What would Bulls fans rather see dealt: Tyrus or the swap? Note that the pick this year, even top 10 will still be an excellent player with very high upside (aka, no great seniors this year) who will be a year further from FA AND cheaper (as long as the player is below number 2, which if its two, well, we've struck gold)

Part of the problem though is the Bulls don't have an adequate replacement for Gordon at this point. Thabo, in time, could be that player, but if you're dealing for Gasol this year, this is a WIN NOW move and getting a guy back like Warrick would be a very good hybrid backup like Tyrus at the 3/4. Here's how I'd look at it:

Gordon and Nocioni > Deng and Thabo. We'd have one outside shooter on the roster, and that'd be Kirk.

I know. My problem with it though is that I don't think it is a big enough upgrade to make us a championship team, and since it isn't going to make us a championship team, I don't want to give up a player with the ability and upside of Luol Deng. That's why the deal I proposed had us keeping Hinrich, Gordon, Deng, and Wallace to go with Gasol, and if Memphis doesn't want it, that is too bad.

See, I see this as a great opportunity to grab the lead in the East while it is at its weakest.

The Bulls are as good as any team in the East right now and I like Deng's ceiling too much. I doubt Deng costs as much as Pau does when he signs an extension, too; and the Bulls do have a chance at a franchise player in this summer's draft. Hopefully, the Knicks start sucking more to increase that chance.

There are currently 8 teams in the NBA with a worse record that the Knicks. Of course anything can happen in regards to the draft lottery, but there is a good chance that pick will not be top 5.

This is from K.C. Johnson:

"General manager John Paxson has stated publicly he won't mortgage the organization's future for Gasol. Translated, that means he refuses to deal two young assets. But for now, the Bulls' philosophy goes beyond that—to refusing to include Hinrich, Luol Deng or Ben Gordon in any of the various parameters already discussed."

But would you trade Deng, Tyrus, one other non-Gordon/Hinrich player for Kevin Garnett-----as Reggie Miller suggested last night?

Reggie, though he's obviously not a GM or anything, seemed to think McHale would jump at such an offer...

I think we'd immediately be a favorite to win the East. Yeah, you lose Deng and that's bad. But Garnett is so much more uber.

This is shaping up to be a very talented and deep draft. A top 10 pick holds a lot of value, and a shot at Oden or Durant, however small, is difficult to pass up.

Bulls may have done alot to douse the fires of Pax by beating the league's best last night, but I still think once Shaq is healthy the Heat will roll down the stretch and be the favorites.

I'd love to see PJ play like that more often though. I've never seen him do things like post up on Dirk twice----both times getting baskets, and big ones too.

The Bulls are still missing a consistent, tall, inside scorer. They're going to have to prove they can win it without that element----people aren't going to automatically assume they can; they're going to do what they're doing now---doubt the Bulls can keep the hot shooting going all the way to the finals.

Mike North is an idiot.

He has no understanding how the NBA works.
