wow, college football news updated their poll

1. Ohio State (6-0)

2. Florida (6-0)

3. Tennessee (5-1)

4. Michigan (6-0)

5. Texas (5-1)

6. California (5-1)

7. USC (5-0)

8. Missouri (6-0)

9. Louisville (5-0)

10. Notre Dame (5-1)

And as usual they're on crack.

What do you see is wrong with it? Just curious.

Cal #6 is a joke. Missouri in the top 10 is ridiculous. No way does Mizzou play a Louisville, Notre Dame, Auburn, etc and beat them. No disrespect to Mizzou, but they've played a soft schedule to get to 6-0. Play Oklahoma or Texas and beat them and then we can talk.

(Michigan behind Tennesse is also a mistake, but not a huge one.)

Cal #6 is a joke? No way. I have them at #7 right now. I would put them as a favorite over USC if they were to play next week.

Didn't Tennessee beat Cal. Why would Cal be ranked ahead of Tennesee?

I don't disagree that Mizzou doesn't belong in the top 10, but apply the same logic to the other teams. Who has Louisville, USC, West Virginia, LSU, Clemson, Iowa, or Georgia beaten?

Edited out Notre Dame because I have a bad memory.

I agree with you concerning some of these teams. Louisville beat Miami and won at Kansas State, which are good but not great wins. West Virginia has beaten no one. Clemson has beaten Florida State (a good, not great win) and their only loss is to a one-loss Boston College team (who incidently is a last-second TD away from being undefeated). USC's wins against Arkansas and Nebraska are both quality wins, in my opinion. Both of those teams will be top 15 teams at the end of the season. Georgia is way overrated and Missouri deserves to be ahead of them. Same goes for Iowa. LSU has beaten no one, but in their defense, they have lost to two of the better teams in the country. For what its worth, here's how I'd rate the top 15:

1. Ohio State

2. Florida

3. Michigan

4. USC

5. Tennessee

6. West Virginia

7. Louisville

8. Texas

9. Notre Dame

10. Cal

11. Georgia Tech

12. Auburn

13. Mizzou

14. Arkansas

15. Clemson

The Mizzou-aTm game is at 2:30 CST, and will be on ABC.

I'm excited, is it Saturday yet?

What are the odds Herbstreit picks Missouri to lose again?

Yesterday he said he needed to see Mizzou win to show him they were for real, so I wouldn't be surprised if he went with them this week. I don't blame him for the last two weeks, Colorado was a classic trap game, and we were road underdogs yesterday.

Huge game for Mizzou. IMO, A&M is a lesser team than Tech, but their environment is tougher to play in. It'd be huge to go 7-0 going into the two-game homestand vs. KSU and vs. OU. A 7-0 start would HAVE to get us some respect, right?

If you think that Cal is #7, then I find it hard to believe that Notre Dame isn't 7b. Compare the two seasons. Both have a big loss against a potentially top-5 team. Both have a win over a 15ish team (Oregon and Georgia Tech---and I don't think there's much doubt that Georgia Tech on the road is much, much tougher than a 4-2 Oregon team [they didn't truly beat Oklahoma]). Both have picked up "decent" wins (Cal- Arizona State; Notre Dame- Penn State).

Don't let one primetime win against an overrated team make you think that Cal is better than what the polls say they are. 10-12 is right where they should be.

At a neutral site or in Berkeley, Cal would beat Notre Dame 7-8 times out of 10.

I have a hard time believing that. Not to say ND would win 7-8 times either, but I think it'd be more like a split.

Frankly, Cal would probably have a better chance in South Bend (ND still hasn't lost away from home under Weis).

Texas ahead of UT? Not a chance. Texas got handled by the #1 team whereas Tennessee lost by a point to the #2 team. Tennessee also dominated Cal, a team that is looking VERY good right now and beat Georgia (yes, they probably aren't that good) on the road. Texas beat an what I consider to be an average Oklahoma team.

What exactly has Clemson done? Beat an overrated Florida State team? Not exactly an accomplishment. Missouri probably is a little high but they should be ahead of Clemson right now.

I think Ohio State would handle just about anyone right now. Playing night games in Austin and Iowa City in the first month and winning both games by 3 scores is incredible. I think they would likely do the same to Tenn.

Yeah they blew out Cal, but Cal absolutely killed themselves and played about as bad as possible, most of which was completely self-inflicted. That happens at times when you go across the country to play a game. The following week they were a 2-point conversion away from losing to Air Force AT HOME.

Clemson should have had a win at Boston College and then went in and won at FSU. I know FSU is overrated this year, but it was still an impressive win and should have been a blowout. They pass the eye test for me. Maybe not ahead of ND, but ahead of Mizzou at this point.

It's not even so much about "who have you beaten" as much as "who have you played"? If you haven't played anyone, it's hard for me to put you near the top 10. Yeah they got a win over a ranked team in Texas Tech, but Tech looked horrible to me. So then you ask yourself who have they played and why where they ranked? Well they beat SMU, UTEP, SE LA, squeaked past an average at best A&M team and were held to 3 points in a loss to TCU.

Texas Tech isn't a bad team, but I don't know if they're much better than a Purdue. When you're a team that hasn't really accomplished much in recent years it's just hard to put them around the top 10 when they've had such a weak schedule. Their opponents have a combined 12-23 record.

If Pinkel wanted respect he could have not weasled out of the Iowa series and they would have had their chance at some early national attention.

Frankly, I find that ridiculous.

I'll say it right now...Cal will lose to USC and the Irish will beat USC in Southern Cal.

The Irish won't beat USC. Personally, I don't think ND is as good as their hype. They beat Penn State, but Penn state isn't an elite team. The only elite team they played was UM and they got their asses handed to them. MSU has shown they they aren't that good either and it took a miracle for ND to win that one.

There's no way that ND beats USC at Southern Cal. No chance at all.

I think Tennesee would beat both of them.

Maybe, but both teams had a similar cast of characters last season and Notre Dame routed the Vol.s

Tennessee finished with a 5-7 record last season. They're 5-1 so far this year.

We shall see. Cal will have a tough time since the game is in LA. If it was in Berkeley I'd be sure they'd pull it off.

You really think ND is going to go to the stadium across the freeway from USC and beat them? Wow, we shall see.

Tennessee really is basically a different team this season. Sure many of the players are the same, but almost none are playing anything like what they did last year.

Erik Ainge (QB) looked absolutely lost last year, this year he's a few games from being a legit Heisman contender.

The wide receivers, led by Robert Meachem and Jayson Swain (the top receiving duo in the nation by yardage before Sat.), couldn't catch a pass if it was handed to them last year, this year the top three look like first round picks.

I don't think you put Tennessee ahead of undefeateds like Michigan and I'm not sure we beat ND simply because our defense lacks the depth to defend that offense well, but we are a top 5-10 caliber team right now. And much, much better than last year.

Actually we were 5-6. :D

After seeing Ty Willingham nearly lead a team to victory at USC, I'm less than impressed with the Trojans.

We beat USC last season with Bush and Leinert on the team. (Yes, we beat them. Bush's illegal move at the end gave USC a win they didn't earn.) What about this USC team makes you think they are so great?

ND only beat Stanford 31-10. UCLA beat Stanford 31-0. Therefore, UCLA will beat Notre Dame in two weeks. ;)

Notre Dame 30, UCLA 17

What's your prediction?

Do you think LSU would beat USC?

P.S. Lets revisit this on Jan. 1 and talk about whether or not Georgia Tech is an elite team.

As big as a ND fan that I am, I still see no problem with that play. USC beat ND. It was illegal, but I have seen it happen many, many times; and never be called. Weis even said he would have expected his players to do the same thing.

And if ND can find a way to show up for a whole game, the USC game could be very, very good. However if they come out flat, it will be over before the half.

According to my roommate who works for a radio station here and goes to press conferences and stuff, someone in the athletic department told him (or a group?) that if we are undefeated going into Oklahoma, Gameday has already contacted Missouri and said they will be coming to Columbia. My God this would be a dream come true. Please let it happen!!!!
