Once again, Jimbo doesn't get his first choice. (my assumption based on what has been speculated in the media)

Let's hope Lou isn't #2

I believe that Dusty was Jim's first choice and he hadn't even thought about the replacement before yesterday.

Even if you believe that Hendry wanted to keep Baker (and he probably did), Dusty has been gone for a while now. As soon as the Cubs fell totally out of contention this year, Dusty was done, and I'm sure Hendry knew it. Jim gave some thought to possible replacements awhile ago, I'm quite sure.

The only reason Baker held onto his job until the end of the season is because Hendry likes him and didn't want to can him. Jim didn't tell him before the end because he dreaded doing it, IMO.

I think he held his job because Hendry was looking for any excuse to bring him back. Lots of teams have replacements already set-up when a guy is fired, especially when that guy has been a lame duck for a long time.

But once it got to a certain point, there weren't going to be any excuses that would be adequate, and Hendry had to know that.

I believe you are right. Because at the press conference he seemed clueless about who the next Manager or what he was looking for. I don't think he ever thought it out properly, like the Marlins did. Marlins knew exactly what they were going to do months ago.

I'm not convinced that time wasn't Monday at noon, in Hendry's eyes. Or maybe Sunday night.

As Dusty said, he should have been evaluated on his body of work, not the past couple of months. Hendry should have done this a long time ago, and I think the amount of time and energy it took to convince himself to make the change took away from whatever effort he might have been able to make to find a replacement.

A returning GM who is looking to replace an outgoing manager whose contract was expiring and was a lame duck doesn't need to do an exhaustive search, especially when he went through a search 4 years before. A new GM needs to do a search. A guy who just took over the job should get a chance to conduct a search. A guy who inherited his previous manager should be allowed time to do a search. But a sitting GM replacing the guy he hired 4 years prior should have that replacement in-line immediately following the dismissal of the original.

Well supposedly Mcdunough and Girardi are both supposed to appear on WGN radio some time tonite during kap and waddle.

So perhaps Hendry didn't really mean it about his "extensive" search. I'm not dissapointed if his choice was Girardi. .

Every GM has a list of potential replacements no matter how solid his current manager is. If Hendry didn't have a list of at least 5 names to replace Dusty back in July that he deserves to get fired after it takes him 3 months to hire a manager and allows other teams to grab up all the FAs

Bear in mind this is the organization that accepted the resignation of its president about 2 months ago but didn't inform Hendry of this until 2-3 days ago ... yet didn't replace Hendry. I wonder when McDonough was tapped for the job.

A lack of any sort of urgency has been the hallmark of the Cubs. McDonough specifically said that he was in the urgency business now ... I guess we'll see whether that means anything at all.
