Overheard

• Lou Piniella is high on the list of candidates to be the next manager of the Chicago Cubs, which will be interesting if Girardi is fired in Florida because Girardi and Piniella are represented by agent Alan Nero.

• Cubs announcer Bob Brenly has surfaced in talks about a replacement for manager Felipe Alou in San Francisco. Brenly was a player, coach and announcer with the Giants before making his managerial debut in Arizona.

Am I the only one who doesn't care if Stone comes back?

I do care if Stone comes back. I miss him in the booth.

Wow! I didn't know that Stone wasn't liked on this board. I guess I'm one of the few that finds him very entertaining.

I've always been a fan of Stone but his act got a little too annoying for me. I consider him a very good analyst.

I loved Stone I also really liked that guy that left and went to Arizona and is with Grace now. That would be the ultimate duo for me, they were broadcasting when I first started watching the Cubs on WGN with Harry as well of course.

Was that Thom Brenaman?

I think so, I wasnt sure I could get the spelling right though.

Thom Brennaman is probably going to be Steve Stewart's replacement in Cincy on their radio broadcasts. Then he would take over play-by-play when Marty retires.

If Brenly leaves, I would love to have Steve Stone back.

What's his "act" BTW? Besides entertaining?

I'd prefer "Uncle Lou" managing a Dairy Queen, or a McDonalds, and not the Cubs.

I would love Girard, but I am slowly jumping on the Dierker bandwagon, even tho that is highly unlikely, as much as Vance wants it to be otherwise.
