So what I'm getting from this season is that...aside from Offense, Defense, Starting Pitching, Relief Pitching, Bench, Manager and General Manager....we're all set to make a run for it all next year.

Cubs suck.

Well...........d'uh. But hey on the season, the Cubs are at rock bottom, so they can't go any further.

Rock bottom games under .500? Rock bottom for win percentage is actually well below where they are today. Actually, I think they could lose every game the rest of the way and have a better W% than they had at their absolute worst.

I believe I read a story after the Cubs won Saturday that referred to Cincy as the "struggling Reds". It's kind of funny the Cubs managed to lose 3 of 4 to such a struggling team. Not getting the sweep against the Cubs might still count as struggling.

Bruce, if you re-visit or, if anyone knows the answer, I'd really like to know why a MI must bat 2nd...

A cursory examination of retrosheet looks like Dusty has almost always batted a mif 2nd in the order. Oddly enough the only time he didn't for any extended time was when he had Bill Mueller at 3b and Kent at 2b he batted Mueller(lifetime 373 obp) 2nd most of the time. I say oddly enough because that was a great spot for Mueller but it wasn't really a "Dusty type" move. Also in 2004 he batted Cpatt (293 obp) 2nd more than anyone else with DLee next.

Other than that some of his favorites have been(all mif):

Robby Thompson (329 obp)

Agonz (303 obp)

Jose Vizcaino (318 obp)

Neifi (301 obp)

I know Dusty played for Lasorda in LA, maybe even a little for Walter Alston, wonder if they had a MI in the 2 spot for their lineups?

Way to take out Wuertz, Dusty.

Eyre is giving up over an .800 OPS to left handed hitters.

You mean to tell me lefty - lefty matchups sometimes do not work? I think Dusty knows best.

I did not realize how ineffective Eyre has been against lefties. He hasn't been good against righties either, and he's basically sucked since returning from the pulled fat injury. Hopefully they get a bounce back year out of him next season. But getting into his mid-30's, he might want to think about exercising a little.

You're forgetting the training staff. :D
