I love this team again by the way. Overrated, yes. Lucky, yes. Completely undeserving of being 3-1, yes. But oh my lord what a comeback.

How were Moo fans crying? Do they live in a cave? Do they not know that the history of crushing MSU collapses? I was expecting it - I just didn't know whether it would be tonight or another time. For a dysfunctional football program, they're very predictable.

They gave up 37 points to the 5th best team in the Big 10. I'm tempering my enthusiasm a bit.

Looking at their impossible schedule, if they don't go to USC with one loss, Notre Dame should be embarrassed.

Late in the third, I said "there is still time for Michigan State to show up." I didn't mean Notre Dame - I meant the MSU I've come to know and love. And sure enough, they came through with flying colors.

May be the fifth best team in the big ten, but it's one of the most potent offenses (maybe in the country).

Now MSU can go on it's annual slide and it won't ruin ND's strength of schedule.

Typical Michigan State, typical John L. Smith. Only they could blow a game where they're up 37-21, 10 minutes to go and first and 10 at ND's 30. Stupid penalties, stupid turnovers, stupid coaching, stupid decisions. Oh and I rescind what I said about Drew Stanton before the game. What a terrible display.

The worst part about it is that we're going to hear about what a fantastic Notre Dame comeback and the "Quinn for Heisman" chants. That game was absolutely handed to them on a platter. I can't wait to hear Holtz.

I can't believe how incredibly weak their schedule is now. They shouldn't have a game within 14 points until they get to USC. 3 academies, a horrible Stanford team, a horrible North Carolina team, a bad Purdue team and a UCLA team that just lost to Washington. Wow.

In related news, Desmond Howard (who is terrible) really hates Michigan State. He kept saying they were the only team in the country who could blow that game and when Fowler was talking about the MSU fans' reaction he said it was "priceless" with glee.

The same guy who said "hello mediocrity" an hour ago? Hmmm.

You don't have to wait. Lou has already predicted ND to go to the national championship game.

I wish I were kidding.

2-2 = mediocrity.

Even MSU can't lose a home game to Illinois (this weekend). But they'll get trounced at Ann Arbor and then hosting the Buckeyes, and I expect them to lose one of their next two games (@NW'ern or @Indiana). They'll probably finish 5-6 and John L. will get canned.

So it was 16 points with 10 minutes left? Not quite as bad as blowing a 17 point lead with 8 minutes left to the Braylon Edwards band.

And I bet Howard's not fond of MSU, considering he's a UM grad.

Yeah, as an ND fan even I thought that was crazy. We have a decent shot of losing a game before USC (not a specific game, but just an upset where we don't come out to play), we then could very easily lose to USC, and even if those two things don't happen, we'd have to hope that the undefeateds go down and the polls favoring us over possible 1 loss teams like Ohio State, Texas, and let's say Auburn. All of those together makes our chance to go to the national title game as remote at best.

I do think they have a good shot at going to a BCS bowl though-we would almost certainly get in to one of those with a 10-2 record, and I certainly hope we don't lose twice more-although I know with this team, anything is possible-good or bad.

Let me say how much I hate the kicker who missed an extra point for costing all ND gamblers their money today.

I hate you, nameless kicker.

That was painful to watch. If MSU had won that game Iowa would have been Big Ten champs by themselves and gone to the Rose Bowl.

I know why Howard doesn't like them, it just seemed a little crazy. When they give you this much air time because Herbstreit's gone, you should probably act a little bit professional.

CubColtPacer if they're even a top 20 team there isn't a game they can lose before USC. Their only actual road game is at Air Force. Their toughest overall game is a toss-up between bad Purdue and UCLA teams.

By the way I have to nominate the MSU kick returner's kneel down at his own 12 as one of the strangest/dumbest plays I've seen.

Oh and Gameday is officially coming to Iowa City next Saturday. The primetime, national game at 7:00 on ABC next Saturday.

I cannot freaking wait to be there. Kinnick will be beyond crazy.

Being at Gameday is so much fun...I was there for the ND-USC game last year and it was an incredible atmosphere, even for ND. I hope you have a good time and I'll be rooting for the Hawkeyes (obviously).

Yeah Gameday will be fun to be at, but the game will be even better. This is probably the biggest or at least most hyped game in Kinnick since '85 (#1 vs. #2 Michigan). It's always loud and a big homefield advantage, but it's just taken up a notch under the lights. There haven't been too many, but the ones we've had have been nuts.

This is just huge exposure for recruits and the entire country and will be even bigger if we win. We probably haven't had a national spotlight game like this since the '02 Orange Bowl.

Bob Davie loves Iowa and Ferentz and Herbstreit usually toots our horn quite a bit. He still says that when Iowa is winning, Kinnick is the toughest place to play in the Big Ten. Those two will even out some of Musburger's love of OSU and disdain for Iowa.

I'll try to keep posts like these to a minimum over the next week so everyone doesn't get sick of hearing about Iowa.

I'm gonna go tell myself that Mizzou is 4-0 and that 7 of the 12 teams immediately in front of them lost today.

Tell yourself that..... Although our Offense looked like complete poo, our D is back, and REALLY good.... I about made that comment last week, but wanted to watch the Louisville game before I said anything. Our D is looking like the KSU of old. I hope it keeps going like it did today. We will dominate Big 12 offenses if so. Plus, pinkel likes to not put a good plan out vs the Cats! I was definitely not upset with today's performance on D.... Our offense does blow though. I say play Freeman and lets see what the kid can do. He does have a cannon from what I saw today.

What was good about the defense today, the turnovers? I'm not trying to be argumentative, but looking at the boxscore(24 points, 400+ total yards, over 200 yards rushing, 69% completion percentage) it doesn't look like a terribly strong performance.

Tangentially, I think Mizzou moved into the #1 spot in defensive YPG after today. [insert comment about how Mizzou's opponents have been garbage here]

FWIW, I've enjoyed Iowa's return to football prominence, please beat the bloody crap out of O$U.

EDIT: Gameday is quickly becoming the Ohio State traveling sideshow. They may end up doing close to half their games.

I'm sure that will pretty much be the national consensus (everyone outside of OSU fans) which is very cool.

Yeah this will be the third time in four weeks they'll be at OSU's game, but really they haven't had much choice. They had to be at the Texas game and Iowa-OSU is the only matchup of ranked teams next weekend and the clear game of the week, plus Herbstreit will be there. I was surprised they were at Columbus today, but I guess the next best options were Notre Dame or Cal and Arizona State.

Seriously, what the hell was that??

A minor quibble, re; the schedule. That Navy game is in Baltimore, 30 miles from Annapolis compared to 613 from ND.(Thanks mapquest!) Just cause it's not on a school campus doesn't mean it's not a road game.
