Schlereth is now, for the second week in a row, picking the Bears as his upset special. Ahahaha this makes me laugh. I hope they destroy the Lions. I wonder if ESPN would ever fire anyone for be wrong week after week. On second thought, no, no they wouldnt.

Schlereth hates the Bears. So far he is the only person to pick against them in either week.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think that people in general give way too much credence to what so-called experts predict. Remember last season when Sports Illustrated ranked the Bears as the worst team in the NFL and projected that they would go 3-13? C’mon! Watching ESPN this morning I also saw that Schlereth picked the Packers to beat the Bears as his upset of the week, and I couldn’t disagree more

The picks at CBS look like they're against the spread. +8 for the Lions isn't a bad play, but overall winning the game might be.

Is anyone concerned about the Ruben Brown/Shaun Rodgers matchup.

Ruben is starting to show signs of age, and Rodgers is a monster.

A 340lb Rodgers slamming into Rex could spell disasster.

Oof, didn't think about that yet. The O-line was very pedestrian last Sunday. Thats something we should look at in the coming weeks. In 2004, the O-line was awful. The Bears only made a play for a couple of aging players that offseason, and they responded with an above average season last year. I wasn't too thrilled that the Bears chose to stand pat there this offseason with the worry about deteriorating skills.

I've been worried about the O line for a few years now. It's the most important part of any offense, even moreso for a team that plans on basing it's entire attack around the running game. Not to mention, the lack of skill threats means the line has to be all that much better to keep the offense moving. I don't see the O doing all that well in this game.

Posted
The Oline was fine in pass protection and IMO, the lack of running game was in large part due to the terrible blocking by the fullback. McKie missed so many blocks. I can see why they drafted Runnels.

Do we have any Marc Edwards sightings?

However, I was also noticing that Grossman wasn't getting a lot of pass protection from his line.

To be fair, everyone has the Lions covering 8 points, not necessarily winning. Which, given even the common Bears M/O from last year (averaging 14 pts per game offensively), is a big line.

Harmon's Forecast did predict the Bears to go 0-17 last year, though (predicted a loss each week, including the playoffs...hey, they were right 6 times).

I would think that in the offseason that the offseason line would be the number one priority. But that's a long ways off. Let's just hope the line can play near what they did last year. The Bears should be fine if they do.

I would think that what we see as the #1 priority will never be what Angelo sees. Didn't he have a reputation of ignoring O line in Tampa?

First priority is extending Briggs, Vasher, and Tommie Harris. The D is the identity of the team, the strength of the team. They have to keep these guys to stay at such a dominant level. Even a minor drop off in defense could kill this team because the offense while improved, isn't near strong enough.

Priority #2 is the O-Line. Hopefully one of these young receivers can establish themself as a big time player so priority #3 won't have to be a WR.

i get the feeling that angelo isnt going to re-sign briggs. he's arrogant enough to think that he can replace briggs like he replaced colvin.

Do you think Briggs is worth Urlacher money? Because the asking price is very similar.

You and me both. I don't think he'll be back after this year.

I don't want to overpay Briggs if it means we can't resign someone like Tommy Harris.

Tommy Harris > Briggs

The contract that Briggs is asking for is absurd.

Was Harmons picking ATS too? If not I can't see how they'd pick against the Bears when they played SF and NO

I would tend to agree.

Also, is Angelo really arrogant for thinking he can replace Briggs? He found Lance sitting at home in Arizona on draft day, expecting to be picked on the second day. Most "experts" thought he had reached badly.

What makes everyone think this can't be done again? As for Urlacher money.......the market has gone up since Urlacher signed, but I still don't think Lance is worth that much, and I definitely don't want to break up this DLine in order to sign Urlacher's sidekick.

Briggs wants a huge payday, and I don't blame him. But just like Wilbur Marshall a long time ago------when you go to play for another team, just remember you won't have that hall of fame MLB taking all the OLine chip shots for you so you can make plays.

I don't know if I agree that Harris is better than Briggs or not. Briggs had a better season than I think alot of people realized last year as he's been playing in Urlachers shadow. When you tally up the tackles, assists, sacks, INTs, knockdowns, etc...Briggs was right there with the NFL Defensive POY. I'm not disagreeing, but I'm not agreeing either. I guess I'm on the fence.

Posted
Not taking anything away from Briggs but the position of LB isnt as important as DT or DE. The phrase 'it all starts up front' is a mantra for a reason. Angelo and Lovie totally abide by this rule, you hear them say 'you cant have too many Dlineman' a lot. Its better to overpay for a Dlineman than a OLB. Save the money for Harris and Tank.

Yes it was. Harmons in the grid is against the spread. If you actually click on the harmons forecast, it has the Bears winning 18-14.
