In bizarro and unsettling news, Northern Colorado's backup punter stabs the current punter in leg

The backup punter at Northern Colorado has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing his teammate -- the starting punter -- in the kicking leg.

The motive may have been competition for the first-string job, police said Wednesday.

Mitch Cozad was accused of attacking punter Rafael Mendoza in a parking lot Monday night, Evans police Lt. Gary Kessler said.

Mendoza was treated and released from the North Colorado Medical Center Monday night. Coach Scott Downing said Mendoza will not punt in Saturday's game at Texas State University.

"I guess the only identified motive at this point in time is the competition for that position," Kessler said Wednesday.

so far, Penn State vs. Youngstown St. isn't even on TV in State College (unless you have ESPNU, which no one does). Hopefully the local ABC affiliate will wise up and air it Saturday

Digital cable :D And I bought a new HDTV last week for the beginning of college football and NFL season.

Right now, I'm rooting against anyone ranked higher than LSU, so I have no qualms rooting for Michigan.

Then you must be rooting for Syracuse because they are not in the top ten....I have no idea why.

Wow...no Illinois guys out there, just basketball fans, eh? You're the 3 point favorite so far.

I'm here, I just don't want to be accused of being fairweather when I run into hiding for losing to [expletive] Syracuse.

Who knows who is going to win this game but at least you and I can exchange pleasantries while the others are hiding for some reason will be razzed or can say nothing about this game when they come out of the shadows during the basketball season.

I think I know exactly the reason why an Illinois or Syracuse football fan would be hiding right now. I really can't believe U of I is the favorite.

Find someone with DirecTV (channel 609 with the sports pack).

I wish I could drink Yuengling. There is a bar in Bloomington that has it on tap now, so hopefully it will get to Indy soon.

Did get to drink Fat Tire in Vegas so that was nice.

Back and forth lunacy on the halftime report of WV/Maryland.

Making picks - Holtz picks "the university of USC" to beat Nebraska. Seriously.

May counters by picking Michigan over Notre Dame based on their defensive coordinator. The same one whose defense is giving up 12 ppg against Vandy and CMU at home, as opposed to ND's 13.5 ppg on defense against GT (on the road) and Penn State. If you think Michigan is going to win the game, great, but don't give us a reason that makes no sense.

i also am curious as to why u of i is the favorite. the only way i can envision illinois ever beating a non-eiu team is if the opposition doesn't understand the rule about quarterbacks being allowed to make forward progress and is simply confused about what is happening as isaiah williams runs by them.

Don't worry, there was plenty of Mark May idiocy on SportsCenter as well. They asked him and Herbstreit about a number of games this week, and May's rationales for his picks were illogical, just about across the board. Then he said something about Troy Smith being better than Brady Quinn because he isn't running the ball as much this year... yeah, running less makes a guy a better quarterback. A QB who runs a lot could never, say, guide an undefeated team to the national championship.

Herbstreit is actually a really good analyst - IMO, the best on ESPN and one of the best college football guys on TV. I'm not exactly sure how Ohio State managed to produce someone bright and well-spoken :D

There's no doubt about this. I bought a 2005 ND highlight DVD, and they show in the beginning the whole 0-6 prediction, and Kirk turns around and goes "Notre Dame will be 4-2 after 6 games and average over 30 points a game." Absolutely floored me.

To TT and dabears:

The University of Missouri, in conjunction with the Mountain West Conference, College Sports Television (CSTV) and Fox 38 in Columbia will bring Tiger fans live, televised action of Mizzou's September 16 gridiron contest at New Mexico.

Mizzou's game time with the Lobos is scheduled for 7:00pm and can be viewed on Fox 38 in Mid-Missouri.

Thank God we get the game, more info at the KMIZ website:

http://www.kmiz.com/index2.htm

It'll also be broadcasted in St. Louis and Kansas City. Great job by CSTV, ABC, FOX, and everyone else getting this game on TV here.

May the pleasantries begin! I thought for sure I would be able to trade barbs with all the Illinois people that are on here for this game....like Frado, you guys broke my heart!

I think this is a big game for both of these second year coaches. I think the only reason Illinois is the favoirite is because they are at home because both teams are struggling to say the least. Don't you guys have a couple of pretty good RB's?

Drew Tate will play for Iowa this weekend.

Hopefully it's a blowout and we see lots of Christensen in the 2nd half. Man, I hate Iowa State.

Hopefully its a blowout just like last year. :P

Go ISU!!!

You watch your mouth, mister!

Or, you could be awesome like me and have 3 TVs set up in your TV room so that you can watch 3 college games at once every Saturday... I think Auburn-LSU will be the HD game at 3:30! \:D/

This is excellent news. I think the posters at Tigerboard are directly responsible for getting this game on television here. By the way, I had a dream last night that Mizzou won 49-21. Hopefully it comes true, because I'm kinda nervous. Hopefully the offense shoves it down big mouth Rocky's throat (he's the UNM coach who's saying the UM offense is fluky and fake).

In all seriousness, he needs to improve that fumble/attempt ratio

Also, no love for some DII football? GVSU @ St Joseph's this Sat

Well, so much for this... our local CBS affiliate is a joke, so we don't get an HD channel for CBS. Same for Fox. ](*,) Guess I'll probably put Michigan-ND on the HD and make Auburn-LSU and Miami-Louisville the games on the top TVs.

I'll be at the Stadium to see the Irish beat Michigan for the third straight time. Good luck Lllloyd and company.

Rocky might want to adjust his gameplan to not lose at home to Portland State before calling Mizzou a gimmick offense. Or maybe hold the fluky offense under 35 points which he failed to do last year.

EDIT: In other Mizzou news, Michael Keck is going to be a Tiger!

I am supposed to be but since I got hospitalized this week with an infection it looks pretty unlikely. Now I have the tough choice of deciding which friend to give the tickets to.
