Carlos Zambrano, who played catch on Friday, says he wants to try to make three or four more starts this year.

Earlier in the week, Zambrano didn't appear overly hurried to return from his back injury, suggesting he did not want to risk his career over it. Now, he's changed his tune. "I don’t want to miss the season," he said. "I don’t want to quit. I’m not going to shut it down. I’m going to do the best possible to make 3-4 more starts and finish strong." It's unclear why the Cubs would want Zambranbo to rush back. All that's left for them is trying to avoid the NL cellar

Please Carlos, be careful

And some people argue that this is not the worst organization in professional sports.

If you are talking recently...New York Knickerbockers put up a damn good fight.

This is where Hendry needs to step up and tell Carlos he's done for the rest of the year. Of course this won't happen, but it's what should happen.

I never said the Cubs aren't "one of the worst run organizations in professional sports", I'm saying they are not THE worst organization, but just ONE of the worst run orgnizations. There's a difference, Jeff. They are bad, but there are in the collection of really bad organizations, and you are singling them as they are the ONLY team that is run badly.[/u]

I don't see how Carlos saying he wants to pitch more this year is a reflection of the organization.

I love that Carlos has that attitude, but I hope management sits him for the rest of the year.

That's my feeling as well. It doesn't really bother me that Zambrano said that. That doesn't actually mean that the Cubs will rush him back. He's just saying he wants to play. Of course he does. I'll be worried when Hendry/Baker start talking about getting him back in there.

Carlos is a Proven Veteran. He's a warrior. A horse.

Of course our management will let him pitch if he wants to.

RumDum will want to run him out there for a 165-pitch complete game to avoid being the manager of the only team that failed to have a complete game.

Buffet Boy will be too distracted by the pastry cart to do anything about it.

Andy, of course, will be out of the office - there's a early autumn sale on sweater vests at Marshall Field.

I'm not singling them out. There are many franchises that are poorly run.

However, none are run as poorly as the Chicago National League Ball Club.

So you are saying the Knicks and their $120 million dollar team salary (over half are generously gift to the BACKCOURT and are about 60 or so million over the tax line) ain't nearly as badly runned organization as the Cubs?

Why don't you, Jeff take a peek at some of the newspapers clippings of the NY papers this past yr (or two yrs), and see if you don't change your perception that the Cubs are not the WORST run organization in sports, merely ONE of the worst run organizations in sports.

In other words...the Knicks are RIGHT THERE, Jeff, as to being a poorly runned org. How hard is it to see the fact, Jeff?

Cubs RHP Carlos Zambrano recently revealed his right leg is longer than his left, which might have caused the back problem that could shut him down for the season. Apparently his entire family suffers from this condition, which could give the Cubs some pause when it comes to signing him to a long-term deal beyond next season.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this. :-k

That doesn't even make any sense. There's plenty of things to bash the Cubs organization for, random speculation from the Sporting News is not one of them.

That's some kind of parrot you got there. Should we just place all your posts under the dead horse file?

All I read here is that Zambrano wants to pitch. Imagine that, a fiercely competitive guy wants to rush back from injury and play. That describes only about 99% of the competitive athletes in the world. I have no clue how that reflects on the Cubs in any way whatsoever.

Z was wise enough to go get a separate opinion from a non-Cubs doctor.

A Miami doctor confirmed the original diagnosis for Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano, who will remain sidelined until his back spasms subside.

Zambrano was examined in Miami on Monday, seeking a second opinion at the request of his agents.

Cubs athletic trainer Mark O'Neal said Zambrano had scheduled the Monday appointment with Dr. Frank Eismont of the University of Miami right after the right-hander was forced out of his Sept. 4 start with back spasms.

"Most of this was brought about within a day or two after he came out of the game initially," O'Neal said. "Things had been improving, but we requested he go ahead and go through with this opinion." ...

"He hasn't gone backward at all," O'Neal said. "This was set up five, six days ago. Sometimes you hear from other people and it'll be reassuring."

O'Neal said after Monday's game that Zambrano will be examined on Wednesday by the Cubs' team doctor to gauge whether the pitcher is ready to do more than play catch.

Wise enough, or so distrustful of the Cubs, whether it be the perceived motive to hold back his arbitration award by limiting his chances to boost his numbers, or their longstanding inability to properly detect and/or treat pitcher injuries, that he had to go to somebody else?

My concern would be that his agent is telling him the Cubs are hazardous to his health, and he should not trust them. The other is that he believes the Cubs are trying to screw him financially by not allowing him to profit from a couple more wins, several more strikeouts and a lower ERA, which a couple more starts could do for him by the time February rolls around.

he's gonna get his money as long as he's healthy a few starts here or there are no big deal. He's gonna make #1 ace money no matter whether he plays or not this year.

3+ wins, 30+ Ks, and a couple points in ERA could mean a lot this coming arbitration season. Not to mention a completely clean bill of health. It might not affect him if he was a free agent, but arbitration is all about the numbers.
