Some transactions:

With OF DJ Lewis (ankle) and IF Josh Lansford (elbow) injured and out day-to-day, Boise added IF/OF Cody Gilbert (who started on Saturday for Boise) to the team.

The Peoria Chiefs placed IFs Ryan Lilly (shoulder) and Ryne Malone (sprained knee, might miss remainder of season) on the 7-day DL. To replace the two, the Chiefs have added speedy IF Valerio Heredia from Mesa and IF/OF Jake Whiteside, who was signed from the St. Joe (Mo.) Blacksnakes of the Central League.

Malone is done for the year. He will leave Peoria in the AM to see the Cubs doctors tomorrow and then head to Mesa to start rehab/get ready for surgery if its needed. Tough loss for the team and obviously a tough situation for Ryne.

Aw man, that stinks. :(

He was doing really well, especially considering where he was drafted. Here's hoping he makes a full recovery soon!

Does anyone know why John Sickels would say that the Cubs organization isn't happy with Pawelek this season?

He came to camp out of shape.

Alberto Garcia with a 2-run HR and Peoria leads it 2-0 in the middle of the 4th. Scott Taylor: 3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 K, 27 pitches (22 strikes).

Man, Taylor is the opposite of most of the Cubs guys in the big league plus their top prospects like Pawelek and Veal - totally conserves his pitches and does not rack up the Ks.

Anyways, Peoria is up 2-0 after 4. Taylor: 4 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K, 41 pitches.

11 balls of the 41 pitches too.

threw 7 in the 1st inning, all strikes...had a 5 pitch 3rd inning. he is so different than most other pitchers at this level. He just doesnt care about K's. He knows he isnt a strikeout pitcher and doesn't try to be...very impressive mentality for a 19 year old!

Most young pitchers at this level just want to throw 95 all the time and strike guys out even if they cant/shouldnt. Scott is not that way at all. And he has hit 1 batter in 136 innings....great control

The pitch count bodes well, especially with a 7-inning game.

-----------------

Peoria now up 4-1 after 5, thanks to 2-RBI Ryan Norwood double (following walks to Heredia and Chirinos).

In the 5th, Taylor gave up a double, a groundout to the right side and a sac fly to lose the shutout.

5 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K.

I see. Thanks Raisin. :)

To be fair, he's come on strong at Boise and has worked well with the pitching coach there (David Rosario) to the adjustments he has needed to. I'm sure the Cubs wish he was at Peoria instead but he's had a solid season.

I don't know why you guys love Scott Taylor so much. He hasn't showed any ability to make guys miss whatsoever. He's not really anything to me at this point.

HR/9, BB/9, and WHIP.

He doesn't strike me as a future ace due to the lack of Ks, but as long as he keeps those three things in line, he should have a good future.

Whether or not he does is anyone's guess, but a 19 year old performing at this level is always a positive thing.

I'm not that high on him for the same reason, I was just impressed at his low pitch counts and his success at a young age in the MWL.

Matt Avery blows a 4-3 lead on a walk-off 3-run HR. Chiefs lose 6-4. Taylor: 5+ IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 1 K.

Neither does Jamie Moyer...then again the Cubs gave upon him...

I think Atkins and Veal (and gallagher/shaver in 2005) are clearly ahead of Taylor. But Scott is better than the other starters we have had in the last two seasons (Grant Johnson, Matt Weber, Lee Gwaltney, and the others this season).

I like Scott's mentality. If he gets in a little better shape i think the velocity could go up much like Gallagher did last off-season. He knows how to pitch, he doesn't just throw the ball.

I am insulted! I saw myself pitch once, and I was very impressed.

He's listed at 6'3 240 pounds. I take it there's room to lose some of the baby fat and add muscle?

There aren't too many Jamie Moyers though.

That's what I'd have thought. Although, the guys Scott is ahead of in your list haven't been too inspiring.
