Nice game today. 1 ER in 6 IP is pretty good when you don't have your best stuff and the defense decides to take a nap.

That 3.58 ERA sure does suck, one-pitch-Rich.

Bad stat.

Decent outing. I liked watching Rich throw that change today. Im glad he decided to start throwing it. Instead of throwing a curve in a 2-1 count when the batter knows he will throw one, he can now throw his change and get hitters to ground out to the 3B and 1B.

Yeah, I prefer his 1.14 WHIP. 8-)

decent outing today, a better hitting team would have scored a lot more than 2 runs off him.

Exactly. It's nice he kept the runs to a minimum out there and went 6, but they were really working him throughout the counts for most of the game, something we've seen happen before.

Again, I'm not trying to bash the guy just for the bashing the guy...there seems to be this underlying mood of any kind of critical reception of Hill's starts at this point are just hysterical and meaningless, but I really can't imagine that people are totally ignoring that it looks like he's often struggling in his starts now. Yes, it's nice he can keep it under control with the crappy teams, but I'm nervous if he has to start against winning teams.

What do the rest of you think the reasons are that Rich seems to be having so much more trouble now? Obviously, some regression was to be expected, but should we expect this is going to be the type of pace he maintains from here on out? Is this the "real" Rich Hill?

Again, please don't get super defensive and respond like I'm punching Hill and his mother...how many of you think Rich is just kind of "slumping" and how many think this is pretty much who we're gonna get from here on out (which isn't the end of the world, I know)?

hey it's late 2006 all over again! rich has good numbers because he's pitching against bad offenses!

A 1.78 WHIP or whatever he had yesterday is not "good."

He got very fortunate yesterday to not give up more runs than he did. He needs to start pitching ahead in the count more consistently if he wants to get back to the level the Cubs need him to be at.

I knew someone would take my post the wrong way.

I'm not a Hill hater at all, and want him to succeed as much as everyone and I'm a fan of his. He did not look that good in his last start and several of those before.

he still needs to get better at getting run support.

He needs to learn to hit. That might help his cause.

I offer my prediction for Hill in 2007:

18-7, 3.02 ERA, 221 IP, 187 H, 61 BB, 215 K

looks like my BB prediction will be a little low and he won't get to 221 innings, plus his ERA will be a little higher than I predicted. The strikeouts are pretty close to 1 per inning though, and his record should be a lot better than it is.

Rich has looked a lot sharper lately. Hopefully he pitches down the stretch like did last year (and the beginning of this year).

didn't watch the game (never do), but it seems like hill may have pitched another good game...a corey hart bloop away from having a great game. good to see him sneak a win out of it...it'd be nice to see him get 12 wins or so.

last three starts: 2-0, 21 ip, 16 h, 6 er, 3 bb, 26 k's.

But, but, I swear he's inconsistent.

He is pretty damn good.

Yes he is, best pitcher on the team this year, and hes making the league minimum. Its goin to be fun watching Hill blossom even more.

My seats were right past the Brewer's dugout, towards the front, so I had a great view of Hill the whole night and he looked fantastic, especially in those first two innings! Thankfully, the Cubs decided to finally give him a little run support.

I went to one game this year. The 5 run comeback win against the brewers. Hill gave up 5 and exited early. So I saw him in person, but didn't see him at his best. Oh well, keep it up Richie Rich!
