I blame myself. I knew finally getting to watch one of his games would ruin everything. I apologize to one and all for my mistake.

eh whatever, double digit strikeouts for a second straight game. Those bums got lucky with the home runs :D

will carroll just said that hill is a #5 starter on rain dely theater. i wonder if he's been watching hill this past month?

eh, the homeruns were flukes...if he keeps missing bats at this rate, i'd be willing to bet he doesn't give up three homers in very many games. third 10+ k game of the MONTH for hill...era is still under 2 for september.

He will give up his share of HRs when he hangs a curve or misses badly with a fastball, but yeah, if just 9 batters out of 19 make contact against Hill on a regular basis..... you can guarantee 1/3 if them won't take the ball deep.

That's not likely to happen. I'm hoping he makes all his starts. Throws 190 innings and has an ERA around 4.....give or take .25 runs.

likely or not he has the talent to do so if he stays healthy.

Interesting that the Cubs have two complete games all year, and both by a #5/AAAA pitcher. :D

(Even though last night's game was rain-shortened, I think Hill would still be credited with a complete game since he was the only Cubs' pitcher.)

Kevin (Manassas): Do you think Rich Hill is capable of being a solid starting pitcher for the Cubs next year?

SportsNation Buster Olney: (3:01 PM ET ) Kevin: All about how he attacks right-handed hitters... Seems like when he struggles, it's because he can't get the ball inside effectively, and when he's good, it's the opposite... But if I were the Cubs, I'd feel good about penciling him in as a No. 4 or No.5 next year, with Prior...

see, my problem with this answer is that Hill doesn't profile as a #4/5. Over the course of his minor league career, he's either been great or awful. His stuff is just too strong to project as a #4/5. Either he's a #2/3 or he's a minor leaguer. I can see arguments for either, but I can't see him falling in the middle.

Well the guy said to pencil Prior in also. That would make you think he would be back and better than Hill. Z is better than Hill. Now we just gotta sign Zito and Schmidt and bang, Hill is a 5 on a damn good team.

I don't mind "pencil"ing Hill in as a #3. As long as Zambrano is the #1, zito or schmidt are the #2, Wade Miller is the #4, and Prior is the #5.

Those are two very unreliable guys in the 4 and 5, especially when you already have somewhat of a question mark at 3.

I think that depends on what else they still have around, pitching wise. If Guzman, Marshall, Marmol, Veal, etc. are still around and "waiting in the wings" (I hate that phrase), then they might be okay with some offensive upgrades and that staff.

If a number of those guys are traded in the off season (for offense), they need to bring in someone else to slide into the 3, 4 or 5 spot.

I think the chances of Hill NOT becoming a very good, all star caliber pitcher in the major leagues is virtually zero.

You simply do not see people dominate AAA like he has done and then fail to become a good starter in the bigs. The road to the majors is littered with guys who dominated at lower levels, but then flamed out, as well as guys who did pretty well at AAA and never found it in the bigs. However, I can't recall a pitcher who has absolutely dominated at AAA, like Hill has, who did not eventually succeed at a high level in the majors. If Hill refines his change up to where it's an above average pitch, I think he'll be better than guys like Buehrle, Cliff Lee, Sabathia, and approach the "poor man's Johan Santana" level.

7 IP, 2 ER, 7K and just 2 BB. But nobody has posted anything about this start? I dont remember a stretch of this kind of consistency out of any starter since Prior in the 2nd half of 2003. I'm not saying it's the same thing, but with each start since his recent callup, he is making a case for himself as one of the best pitchers in the NL this second half. I know the enormity of this team's failure this year, but there are still things to be excited about. Am I alone in this? Or have I missed a thread or responses to tonight's start? Does anyone have stats on where he ranks across all of baseball starters in ERA since the allstar break?

You don't have took too far back to find the consistency, even within the Cubs. Zambrano's stretch earlier this year was extremely impressive.

And a bump to this prediction. Lets hope this is correct.
