Ben Maller's rumors included a tidbit that Mike Hargrove is in a precarious situation in Seattle and if he is fired, Dusty Baker would jump at the chance to go back to the West Coast.

If Baker goes to Seattle, the chances of Schmidt signing with Seattle are even higher.
And the chances of him making it through the year healthy are lower, because he would be subject to Dusty's abuse.

I'll take up a collection right now to pay for the plane ticket.
Make it tickets, plural. We need to send Rothschild and Clines too.

And if Schmidt goes to Seattle, he and King Felix can form Seattle's version of Prior and Wood. Imagine simulated game matchups of Hernandez vs. Prior and Schmidt vs. Wood.

Lets get this straight - Dusty will not be fired. His contract will expire, and Hendry simply will not "retain" him b/c they agree to a parting of the ways.

In other words, I doubt Dusty will be back, and I further doubt that Hendry will use the word "fired", "discharged", "terminated", or any other like term.

Unfortunately, that is true. Hendry is going out of his way to help protect Baker's "reputation". IMO, Baker's rep needs to be shot, cause in the past 4 yrs, he has done nothing but help bring an organization done, with his neanderthal thinking.

That may be satisfying personally though, but it's terrible business. If Hendry publicly goes after Baker, that affects our ability to sign both a new manager and new players. It might not make a huge difference, but still there will be that extra added factor of the person thinking that if I do a subpar job in one stop here that maybe my reputation will be dragged through the mud also. I don't mind if Hendry says every nice thing about Dusty imaginable as long as he doesn't retain him. Besides, if you think he would be a detriment to any team, you want to keep his reputation up so another team will hire him.

That's what I've been anticipating ever since Hendry announced Baker would stay through the end of the season. I don't expect him to either be fired or resign. They will simply announce at some point they were unable to reach agreement for an extension so they mutually agreed to part ways.

As long as he's not back next year, I could really care less what language they use to announce it.

i lived in seattle when dusty signed with the cubs, every baseball fan in the city was inonsoleable when they signed melvin and seemingly ignored baker.

seattle's a west coast city, laid back, and knows nothing about the game--the perfect place fopr baker.

and they definitely want him, i can just hear it on KJR right now.

Dusty in Seattle would be far enough away for me. But what would he do when he couldn't use his famous double-switch strategy 162 times a year ?

Actually, I think Dusty is better suited to manage in the AL. He won't have to ever take out his pitcher for a pinch hitter so the starters will all be throwing about 130-140 pitches a game. Dusty will be able to really rely on his horses.

Yes, but it does put a wrinkle in his need to make double switches.

I didn't want to see him go that far. I was hoping to see him go about 3 hours away down I-55.

I'd be happy if he went anywhere in the NL, but St. Louis would be perfect.
