Last year, NSBB awarded its first ever Minor League Player of the Year award to second baseman Eric Patterson. We will continue that tradition this year by naming one minor leaguer the NSBB 2006 Player of the Year and donating $100 to Cubs Care or the charity of choice for that player (last year, Eric donated his $100 to Hurricane Relief fund). The minor league teams have less than three weeks left in their regular seasons, so we'll be getting started on this right away.

The process will be similar to last year. Please make your case for your favorite player in this nomination thread.

A poll will then be created, the membership voting will count for 50%. For now, the exact times aren't confirmed for both the nomination and voting process, but will be shortly.

The same group that was asked to put together the preseason minor league top 30 will get together as a "panel of experts" to vote. Their votes will also count for 50%.

In the case of a split decision, Tim will cast the tiebreaking vote based upon the input from the above processes.

Thanks in advance for your participation!

Though I don't know if he'll get serious consideration given that he's playing half season ball but Tyler Colvin has had a pretty good season at Boisie.

Since it's inevitable, I'll nominate Chris Robinson for making a huge contribution to the entire franchise. :D

Assuming someone else will nominate Veal, I'd like to throw a spot to:

Jake Fox- C: Daytona, West Tenn

He's sweet on my wife.

How are we determining "minor league" player? At what games played, innings pitched, AB's in the majors would disqualify someone?

If it takes only account of minor league numbers and there are no qualifications, I'll nominate Michael Wuertz.

Would Rich Hill be eligible? Didn't spend the entire season in the minors, but when he was there wasn't any pitcher better.

Won't have enough minor league innings when the season is over.

Does my nomination of Wuertz still stand, or do I need to champion someone else's cause?

Wuertz isn't eligible.

Nor is Guzman, Hill, Marmol or Mateo.

What's the eligibility requirements?

I believe we're going with having enough IP or PA in the minor leagues and not losing rookie eligibility in a previous season. Guzman, Hill, Marmol and Mateo don't have enough innings.

But do they all have over 50 IP in the big leagues? Too lazy to look it up.

Hill (50.1 IP) and Marmol (71.2 IP) do. Mateo (19 IP) and Guzman (31 IP - but has met the service time requirements for a rookie) are much further away.
