I can not figure out why Capello would take Upson over Dawson. Dawson had an amazing season for Spurs. I also would have taken Johnson over SWP but I can understand taking the veteran player I guess.

I agree with the Walcott exclusion because England has bigger fish to fry than us, but Walcott would have absolutely murdered our back line.

Yeah I can understand why Walcott was not taken, he shows flashes of brilliance but he is so inconsistent and has really not taken that next step forward over the past few years. I think I would have taken a chance on Adam Johnson though. He had a good season and he brings a little bit more creativity then SWP does.

Guessing Jozy is not going to be playing tomorrow. Not sure if thats a good thing or bad thing. Wanted him just to get a half in.

Rio Ferdinand also left hurt yesterday, and left to have his knee scanned.

France 0-1 China on ESPN2

Seriously, it's ugly. China scored on a free kick and the ball moved and hopped like a knuckleball with spit on the side of it.

Here's that goal.

Not that there was much doubt, but Drogba is admitting he'll miss the World Cup and Ferdinand has officially been replaced. Also, Pirlo suffered a calf injury two days ago and may miss the World Cup for Italy.

Just have to keep our fingers crossed on Altidore (and at this rate, everyone else).

So...I guess we learned that the USMNT is better than the Asian teams. That's something. Although, the front line was encouraging with Buddle and Gomez.

Kljestan to Anderlecht seems to be about to happen. It's surfaced in the local press, and Anderlecht (who traditionally are very cautious about transfer rumours) are not commenting other than that the deal isn't finalised yet.

In other news, the financial section of my paper had an interesting take on the WC interests of the four big beer conglomerates (in sponsorship exposure and market share):

- ABInbev sponsor the WC and want Brazil, Argentina and the US to advance

- SABMiller sponsor the SA team and want SA and the US to advance

- Heineken sponsors the Netherlands (and the Champion's League) and want the Netherlands, Spain and Nigeria to advance

- Carlsberg sponors England (and the European Championship) and wants England, Denmark and France to advance.

The logic being that beer sales in a specific market go up as long as long as that national team is in it, and the one having the largest market share benefits most.

Makes sense, I guess.

As a neutral observer, I'll be having a few during games anyway.

As a goalkeeper this is bad news.

In related news, I bought the US shirt with the two shades of whitish hoops on it this afternoon for £15.

I learned that the meme that says Australia and the US are comparable is crap. We're streets better than the Socceroos. Robbie Findley missed two sitters and nullified (wrongly decided) a Dempsey goal. We should have beaten them 6-0.

I'm thinking that set piece defending is going to be tough with the new ball, though. No one seemed to be able to track it well.

Also, I learned that Rico Clark shouldn't start. He was the worst thing about our team today.

EDIT: Oh, and the vuvuzela is the worst thing in the history of ever.

Just wait until they play in a real stadium with adults behind those vuvuzelas instead of kids.

I think I saw the ball bounce straight off the grass about 3 stories into the air at one point.

And speaking of that grass, it looked like a Bears game out there. No wonder Australia is fed up with it.

That last hard follow on Dempsey was ridiculous for a match like this, particularly in the 76th minute.

Findley was horrible inside the 18 today. Missed the open net in the first half and if he finishes the chance first, Dempsey's goal never gets called off because the ball is already in the net. Also fired way wide after a good run with the ball late in injury time and made a dumb touch to the middle when Landon was wide open to his right.

He should have had at least two goals (the empty net and the sitter) but came up with nothing.

With Essien out and this Australian team looking not very talented, Germany and Serbia shouldn't have much to worry about.

Findley's speed was creating some excellent chances but his final touch sucked. Clark was awful and it hurts Bradley's value when he's in there. I was really expecting Edu to get 90 today. He seems like the best pairing with Bradley against England and I hope that Clark getting 90 today isn't indicative of Bob's intentions for next week. His touch and decision making is just too slow and tentative against England's midfield.

We're a class above Australia. Cahill put away their only real chance and that's pretty much what he does. Outside of that goal, we gave them nothing.

Robben got hurt in Holland's friendly against Hungary. Bloops.

In all fairness he has been healthy way to much this past season. It was bound to happen.
