With the way the Italy-Brazil match is going, these blown chances are killing our already outside chances of advancing. We should be up at least 2-0 at this point.

Forget what I said, TT is right. I didn't realize that Brazil scored a third goal before the half.

 

So in addition to TT's scenario, if Brazil doesn't score, we would have to score three times. Basically, we have to score twice and have the second half margins for us and Brazil bt +3.

 

So disappointing now that we didn't put away another chance or two in the first half.

The only criticism I have of this team so far is their finishing.

 

It's been abysmal.

 

I also get the feeling this is going to turn into one of our normal CONCACAF matches. Egypt knows Italy is getting killed and all they have to do is not allow two more goals and they advance.

 

EDIT: And apparently if the Brazil score holds at 3-0, we would advance with a 3-0 win.

Second tiebreaker is total GOALS. That means if the USA scores 1 more goal and Italy gets shutout, the first tiebreaker is tied, and the USA has the advantage in the 2nd tiebreaker.

How can ESPN keep being wrong? If both games go 3-0, Italy only has a -2 differential.

 

YES!

 

USA would have a -2 differential too, 2nd tiebreaker is total goals, and the USA is ahead right now.

 

And holy crap Italy almost scored on a wide open goal.
