o With Spector, Cherundolo, Bocanegra, Onyewu and DeMerit, you have a good selection for the back four. Left back is still questionable, but those are the best five defenders. Question is health, of course, but I'd go with Boca-DeMerit-Onyewu-Spector. You could also go Spector-Boca(DeMerit)-Onyewu-Cherundolo. Bornstein was decent today, but he's not to the level of the others.

Spector was a revelation. I'm not afraid to say it. It seems laughable that he hasn't been a lock if healthy. The poise, the intelligence and the strength that he plays with is invaluable. I like DeMerit a lot and wonder if Bocanegra's experience at left back for Rennes this season could translate internationally. I don't think he has the speed to do it outside of CONCACAF and quite honestly, I liked Bornstein out left quite a bit. He has his ups and downs, but at least he has the experience that Beasley doesn't have to go with the pace.

Bob is still a tactical rube. Landon still has no mahbles. Clint still tries to do too much and then disappears.

Rico Clark looked much more useful than Mastro and it's incredibly obvious that despite his clubs troubles, his personality issues and whatever other problems he may have, Benny Feilhaber is our most skilled central midfielder in a pool full of central midfielders. I say, if he's playing for his club, he should be a lock for every roster.

Birmingham City are to sign the Standard Liege central defender Oguchi Onyewu and have made a new £5m bid for Cardiff City centre half Roger Johnson.

Free agent Onyewu, 27, is to sign a three-year contract at St Andrew's. He had a brief taste of life in the Premier League two years ago when he made 11 appearances on loan for Newcastle United.

Hmm....I'd have hoped he would have rated a better side than that.

Mexico (2-1 over T&T) and Honduras (1-0 over El Sal.) both picked up home wins today so Honduras moves up to third and Mexico to fourth with half of the qualifying done.

That record didn't last long; ManU have accepted a bid of 94 million euro  for Ronaldo from Real, who are now negociating with the player.

ManU now have some money to spend this summer. They are probably working fast to get Ribery.

If ever there were a good year to win in Azteca...

Bayern are screwed. They should make a run at an unhappy Robben, Sneijder or Van Der Vaart to fill the hole.

If we give up another goal in the 1st 5 minutes were screwed with that crowd, but yeah a point at least is possible.

Kaka, Ronaldo, and Villa all to Real make me really hate them again.

They're throwing money in the wrong places. Their back line is ass.

They're also making me love Barcelona. They spend $ on their academy and after all this spending, Real still won't get over on them.

Although if Pelligrini can actually get this ego fest to listen to him, they are scary.

I just hate seeing any team throw this kind of money out. I hope it fails miserably for them. Barca still look like the better squad and have things in place for years to come. I don't blame United for taking that kind of money at all.

At some point the money is so much that you just can't say no.

Oguchi Onyewu may well be on the move to the Craven Cottage this summer after Fulham emerged as possible suitors for the American defender.

The player's agent has denied that an agreement has been struck with Birmingham City, and reports from Sky Sports suggest the defender may now be set for a move to Fulham.

Newly promoted Premier League club Birmingham was keen to add the 27-year-old to its squad, but the London club is now the favorite.

Not sure where he'd be on their depth chart. Maybe they don't think they can hold on to Hangeland.

Hell, if there ever was a good year to get a draw in the Azteca, this would be it.

Due to new FIFA reg changes, Edgar Castillo is now again eligible to play for the US. I say call him up. We need a left back and Mexico rates him as their second choice.

Okay, I've been working on this transfer saga for a couple of days, and this is what I have learned:

U.S. backline cop Oguchi Onyewu now has three Prem offers (Birmingham, Fulham and mystery meat), two La Liga offers (shrug), one Bundesliga offer (der schrug), one Ligue 1 offer (presumably PSG or Marseille, though Lyon is a possibility) and the seemingly also-ran bid from Fenerbahçe.

As you may already know, Birmingham gave Gooch a weekend deadline to decide on their proposal, which I can only assume was a rather foolish thing to do. Frankly, I think the appearance of new EPL bids and the Ligue 1 offer is going to force the Brums to look elsewhere.

As you may recall, I warned you all a Fulham bid was in the air - I owe one super thanks to the "clock right twice a day" UK tabloids for nabbing that reveal from me this morning.

Isn't this fun?!

Thoughts:

-Gooch to Fulham makes sense for both sides, as Konchesky isn't any good and they'll need depth for UEFAEROPASUPERCUP or whatever this term, with or without Hangeland.

-Real still won't overcome Barca, because, as Wolfie noted, it's going to take a hell of a coaching job to get all that ego on the same page. There's only one ball on the field at a time. I actually hope they flame out and fail-especially Soccer Jesus. He's not upgrading his situation, and I can only assume that United saw that offer, looked at their debt sheet, and realized it would be irresponsible not to sell him.

-Bayern should invest in their backline before doing anything else, as that defense is wet, hot ass (although I rate Sneijder quite highly) .

-Adu in Spain is fine by me, but maybe Freddy's agent ought to make sure it's a team where he's going to play.

-As poor as El Tri have been, Mexico has almost two months to prepare for this game, and Aguirre sure as hell will have them ready. A draw would be an amazing result.

-Word on the street is that Johnny Specs is going to enter next term as the first choice centerback at West Ham.
