Considering Cooper & Azira offered nothing defensively and the woeful, slow, dumb Anibaba was covering his inside flank, Yedlin was as good as anyone could be in the first half vs Nagbe.

 

Full disclosure: I am a full on Sounders fan and biased.

 

Don't get me wrong, this is about praising Darlington Nagbe rather than criticizing Yedlin. If you set up a formation that isolates your best defender against one of the strengths of a team like the Timbers (Quick left flank advance via Nagbe, Valeri, and Harrington), well, you probably aren't doing your job correctly. Yedlin did get beat several times, but when you're on an island, that's going to happen. I don't know what the hell Anibaba was doing; he's pretty much directly responsible for Chara's second (not closing down) and Urruti's goal (turnover).

 

On the Timbers side... I don't know what to say about Zemanski and Papparatto. Terrible.

I love on the second Dempsey goal where he hustles to pick up the ball for a quick restart, Weber punches it over the goal and Deuce laughs. Dempsey is chippy and people seem to forget that when he's slapping nut sacks and throwing elbows but he's also ok with other people doing the same thing back. He might drop a Deuce face on you, but he's not Rafa Marquez. He's not a hypocrite.

Meant to say need at least a draw. Draw keeps City ahead on GD by at least 6 with a win in their other match at hand. They way Liverpool are playing that is reachable but not easy.

The UCL highlight shows on Fox Sports are terrible. The Madrid-Dortmund match was great and they barely showed anything outside of the goals. Less time spent on lineups + less time on coaches + less time of previews of upcoming matches means more time spent on actual highlights.
