AMERICAN trialist Teal Bunbury made an immediate impact for Stoke City's reserve side in their behind closed doors friendly against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday afternoon . . . but missed opportunities proved to be costly in the end.

The Sporting Kansas striker latched onto a delightful through ball from Eidur Gudjohnsen to fire the Potters into the lead midway through the first half, only for the visitors to hit back strongly and eventually win the match 3-1 at Clayton Wood.

Bunbury was included in a strong line-up which started the match, one which included Gudjohnsen, Glenn Whelan, Marc Wilson and Danny Higginbotham.

Indeed, the USA international forced two good saves out of the Wigan 'keeper before he got on the scoresheet and also fired wide shortly after breaking the deadlock.

Is this the guy from Akron last year or two years ago?

I like Shea a lot. I think he needs to learn the Clint lesson, i.e. how to get into the game instead of letting the game come to you. He's also had the misfortune of coming up in the US development system which means that even though he has the feet of a midfielder he's been played all over. He's probably the most talented guy on all his youth teams so some coach probably put him at center mid. He's super tall so they've played him at center back and target forward. He's just been all over the place. Once he settles in a position he'll be able to figure out how to dictate the pace of his game and know when to get involved. He's got way more upside than Dax McCarty.

I think this is the problem from what I have seen of him. At times he is just never involved at all or just seems to be missing. Do you seem him as a forward?

I like him on the wing. Mainly because we don't have any left-side, left-footed players. Let alone those players with any skill. Although hearing Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid scouts rave about him at CB is intriguing.

MLS Re-Entry draft (which I believe basically means free agent draft) is going on and it's just convoluted and hectic as the expansion draft. So far weird stuff in Jimmy Conrad to Chivas and Frankie Hejduk to KC. One old, expensive defender for another? Why?

Intriguing is Chris Seitz to Seattle. If that kid has any chance of living up to his potential, backing up double K for a year is a great place to start.

-I honestly think Brek Shea would make a fantastic attacking left back, but FCD is too deep at that position to keep him there for any length of time. They need to pick a spot for him and let him alone to grow and develop.

-The Gals got lethal today, but I'm not sure about the whole Hejduk move. That guy has been done done done for two years.

-I'm glad MLS told Athletico to piss off on Agudelo. These are the guys we should hold on to for a couple years and then maximize value on. The instant we missed out on 2022 was the instant the development of MLS from its current state to a higher level league became the #1 priority for the long term outlook for the 'Nats.

Davies is hoping to make the 18 this weekend.

Davies has started to score again with the Sochaux reserves and is hopeful he will be rewarded with a chance to dress against Bordeaux.

Playing on Saturday night would bring back nice memories to Davies, who celebrated his home debut with Sochaux last season by scoring twice against Bordeaux.

"I really can't think of a better way to make my comeback that against Bordeaux, in the game where it all began, and comeback after over a year out of the game against one of the top teams in France," Davies said. "It would be astonishing to finally get my chance."

"There are two guys ahead of me in the pecking order who are scoring goals left and right and playing well together, as well," Davies said. "But if I could get 15 or 20 minutes and make a difference and turn a few heads and suddenly people would be thinking, Sochaux with Bobby [brown], Modibo and Davies, have three strikers that can all contribute and offer different things. I don't know which way it's going to go. so I can't really say anything about a loan just yet."

"My long-term goals have definitely not changed, they're just maybe taking a little longer to achieve," he said. "But in terms of moving to England and hoping to play for Arsenal one day and making a difference with the national team and helping the USA to a top-four finish at the World Cup and just to be that player that everyone can count on, that hasn't changed at all."

Soldier Field got stuck with a first round date on June 12th, not even the semifinals or quarterfinals.

Nice set of games in the next CL round coming out of the draw, with Inter v Bayern and Arsenal v Barça the pick of the lot.

Also, in the EL, Anderlecht v Ajax will be fun (and a traffic nightmare in Brussels)

Real-Spurs could be interesting too. Especially considering Spurs form in the Champions League and Rafael van der Vaart just switching from Real. Though, obviously, Real are rather heavy favorites I'd say.

EDIT: I'm a drunken fool. AC Milan not Real; oh well, some big team from some country south of England. They're all the same, right?

It's a bummer Spurs drew Milan. You have me excited.

This is what I get for posting when I wake up hungover. Sorry. Move along, nothing to see here . . .

The only matchup I didn't want was Barca, [expletive]. That's what you get for not winning your group. Hopefully the 1st leg is at the Nou Camp.
