Grant Whal's article on the probably realignment process for qualifing for the 2014 WC.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/grant_wahl/09/29/concacaf.kills.rivalry/index.html

For me, it's an egregious enough offense from Jack Warner for us and Mexico to legitimately start making inquiries about the possibility of joining CONMEBOL.

That would make it far tougher to qualify, unless FIFA decided to shift 2 bids from CONCACAF to CONMEBOL and make the remaining CONCACAF teams share a bid with Oceania or something.

It would up the coefficient at least two spots. It'd still be doable. It's not going to happen and shouldn't happen, but I'd like to see it used as leverage to get Warner under control.

Friendly roster:

G - Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton)

D - Carlos Bocanegra (Saint-Étienne), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Eric Lichaj (Aston Villa), Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjælland), Heath Pearce (FC Dallas), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United)

M - Alejandro Bedoya (Örebro), Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus), Stuart Holden (Bolton), Jermaine Jones (Schalke), Brek Shea (FC Dallas)

F - Jozy Altidore (Villarreal), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Eddie Johnson (Fulham)

It's MLS crunch time, and Galaxy have games so no Landon/Gonzo.

Directv/soccer question. The 10 or so dedicated UEFA channels (480-489) Directv has are outstanding, but for some reason I cannot always DVR them. Last night I DVRed the AC Milan-Ajax and the Real Madrid-Auxerre games. However, when I went to watch them last night, only the Real game was available. For some reason, it said I did not have access to the channel the Milan game was on. This has happened once before, too. Anyone know what the issue is or had this happen? I thought all the channels were complimentary, so I should be able to DVR all of them, right?

I've had a similar problem DVRing them. My theory is that some of the games are also being aired on FSC and FSC+. Those channels are then blacked out in the 480s if you don't have FSC, as I do not.

On a somewhat related note, Comcast Sportsnet aired the Chelsea champions league match live yesterday.

Ah. . .that theory is possible and would make some sense. I don't have FSC or FSC+ either. Far better theory than anything I could come up with (I was wondering if for some reason 480-485 were DVRable but nothing higher -- which would be illogical, but still).

Really? That's totally random. Suppose I'll have to check Comcast in the future for soccer (at least Champions League).

I got an message from Directv saying there will be a free trial of FSC+ starting on Oct.2nd.

Great! Thanks. I would not have even checked. Wonder how long the trial lasts?

Might have preferred the FSC game of Aston-Tottenham, but nice opportunity to watch Dempsey. (And switch back-and-forth with the Man U-Sunderland game on ESPN2).

And he scores!!!

Great goal! Even with his face smashed.

I think the trial runs through next Sunday, unfortunately next weekend is an international break so the number of games is really limited.

Gee, Roy Hodgson, good thing you left a potential bottom table team for a strong one...oh wait, you're in the relegation zone now.

He's done as soon as they find an owner. BLACKPOOL? Really? Torres is going to leave in January.

They're even money to get Newcastled' right now. That team is either full of players past it (Carragher, Skrtl), or overrated (Torres in his current incarnation, Cole, Glenn Johnson). Gerrard is the only reason they aren't worse than they are.

Seriously, the hated owners, the fan protests, the oft-injured, once prolific striker, the captain who looks like he wants to shoot himself, the overrated collection of crap in defense...it's Newcastle.

In case any of you MLS fans haven't been following the unnecessarily drawn out 24 best under 24 ranking on their web site (they release one ranking a day), here it is:

http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/24-under-24-3-andy-najar-dc-united

We're down to #3 Andy Najar. So far I'm on board, though there's no way I rate Steve Zakuani over Mwanga in terms of potential. And if this isn't about potential, Najar shouldn't be that high. Regardless, there are a ton of dual nationals on the list, so a ton of Rossi potential situations.

#2 is Omar Gonzalez which leaves Montero for tomorrow at #1.

If you ain't livin', you're dyin'

Or as a third option, extensively rehabbin'

Posted

Up to date info has him going 124.

This is clearly reckless behavior and I don't know if there's some depression involved coming up on the one year of the crash coupled with the lack of progress in his rehab or maybe he's just a moron. All I know is that I've been in a crash, granted one without serious injury, and I've driven recklessly since so I can't totally write him off as a total jackass. This isn't going to bode well for his relationship with Sochaux though.

He'll be a NE Revolution at the start of next MLS season, guaranteed.
